Jenphop Viraporn and his uncle Charoen Yodkaewlah arrive Monday at the provincial court in Ayutthaya.

AYUTTHAYA — Cloaked in a monk's robe, Jenphop Viraporn stepped into a court for the first time today to plead not guilty to most of the charges relating to the two graduate students he killed in a high-speed crash 11 weeks ago.

For the fiery March 13 crash, 37-year-old Jenphop confessed to a lesser charge of fatal reckless driving rather than vehicular manslaughter while under the influence.

I am to disgusted to even comment on this piece of Hiso whatever ! and the means they use to get out of gaol !!!!!

He can he contest the charges???

The arrogant sod killed 2 innocent people.

Denying some of the charges should increase his sentence by a good 15 years

Denying some of the charges should increase his sentence by a good 15 years

I was going to write the same thing.

If confessing and pleading guilty gets one a lesser sentence, then denying inarguable facts should have the opposite effect.

Is it fancy dress day in court today?

Exactly. They do that in the UK. Confess and you will get a lighter sentence. Deny and you get the maximum sentence. Glad you like my post, at least there are some sensible people around.

He is what he is; an arrogant pathetic shitty scumbag hiding behind robes.

"Cloaked in a monk's robe, Jenphop Viraporn stepped into a court..."

He brings shame to every decent monk who has ever worn the saffron robe.

That they allow this farcical charade to go on says a lot about how skewed the legal system is in favoring those with money. He killed two innocent people who were obeying the law. He was speeding, and was most likely dead drunk. No amount of showmanship and phony acts of sorrow will cleanse his dirty soul.

"Krisada, the public prosecutor, said Jenphop’s status as a Buddhist holy man would not affect the trial."

But his status of coming from a wealthy and influential family sure as hell will.

Drunk monk kills 2? Oh is he going to use the I will go be monk card? Look 1 monk's don't drink 2 monk's don't drink.

An eye for an eye in this case,

sadly it will be the lawyers who will be happy

making money from the tragedy,

I hear the fashion police are laying additional charges. Even his gnome appears disgusted to be seen with him.

Beautifully put. This scummy sub human should get a seriously hefty sentence if he is denying. But by being so brazen is the justice system going to allow him to fix it how he wants. I am pretty sure there will be a big backlash from this if he does by some miracle beat the charges

He must be innocent,he's wearing monk's robesfacepalm.gif ,the big IF is

will the court see past all the B/S and give him what he deserves

a long prison stretch, after all 2 young people died a terrible death.

"Although Jenphops family initially said he would only stay in the monkhood for two weeks, his uncle, Charoen Yodkaewlah, told reporters today that he decided to continue his religious retreat for an unspecified amount of time."

Seems this POS has taken a page out of Ol' Dhammachayo's book. Seems to be working for the abbot, so why not?

All he has to do now is to claim he's come down with deep vein thrombosis, then faint a couple of times prior to his next court appointment, and he'll be off the hook.

It's called the legal system and he will undoubtedly be receiving serious legal advice about what to say and how to plead.

You did choose to ignore this bit though, didn't you?..."...Jenphop confessed to a lesser charge of fatal reckless driving rather than vehicular manslaughter while under the influence."

what a plonker!

why is he disguised and posing as a monk?

I hope he gets the maximum on all charges.

will the court see past all the B/S and give him what he deserves

I'm willing to go on record as saying 'No, no they won't.'

This case will follow the usual trend and be prolonged.......IMO, he'll get off in the end very lightly........just can't see him doing any serious time away.

Copy, bought them from a Thai lady in the US along with a couple of handbags for his "lady".

He should already be behind bars and Uncle Pigface should be at home digging his garden !

You are being far too kind.

Few and far between are stories about decent true monks here. I guess part of their religion means you can be an outright lier as well. But in this case, you may be right and his money will save him.

How can the "head-cocky " of the Buddhist council allow this Clayton's excuse to even consider himself to be other than a mangy temple cur.

Possibly he can contest some of the charges, but that doesn't mean the bribe bid will be successful.

It won't be long before we see a farang try this monk caper after an arrest and the feigned contrition implied. It worked once for a low rent Australian model on drug charges in Indonesia: she appeared in court and announced her conversion to Islam, wearing the garb, got an incredibly light sentence. A Muslim for about 30 minutes.

What about the grub standing along side him.
