Shame they seem not to have considered that the following Monday(20th) the embassy proper opens for election voting (and maybe could have stayed another day in CM). Would have been nice to get it knocked off here at same time instead of Bangkok trip or postal vote.

Wouldn't the same crew be needed in Bangkok for the voting?

Nice of them to be coming into the D2 on a Breakfast Club day. What Aussie breakfast treats should we ask Dave to serve? We'll definitely have some Vegemite next to the toaster.

It;s a big embassy with a fair few staff (Austrade/Immigration/DFAT/AFP/Defence etc) not usually any AEC staff there so the election coordination might be drawn from any Department and locals.

On the two occasions I have used the Outreach Service there has only been one A based Officer and three Locally Engaged Staff (LES). This is one of the reasons that things can take longer as the A based officer may be the only one with delegations for some business. Still a very good service, just a shame that more could not be arranged election wise this visit (even at the expense of missing the breakfast delightful as it may be or at as alternate another day earlier)

While it's a happy co-incidence, the Aussies didn't coordinate their visit to CM or the location around the brekkie schedule at River Market.

Does UK Embassy ever consider providing such a service as this?

Write to them and ask. I know the New Zealand Embassy does it from time-to-time, also. And the Americans go up to Chiang Rai several times a year.

It would seem the Brits should come here from time-to-time and it would be up to their nationals to request it. The Board of CEC has suggested it to them several times.

The Hon British Consul in Chiang Mai could also request it .If he had the time

Just a tip guys.

The last one I attended I arrived around 8 am and there was about 6 Aussies .By the time they going there was around 30 with more arriving. A few spats broke out over places in the queue until they started taking names and getting things in order.

To top it off because of the crowd you had to return after 3 for receipts or documents to be picked up.

They gave me a receipt because I was one of the first and was dealing with my brothers estate and had to get back to c/ rai.

Didn't matter anyhow the bloke who done the witnessing completely both he'd rafter signing outside the lines so that was 550 baht well spent of 3 mins work.

Anyway just be aware of the time factor and crowds?

Cheers

With reference to the Statutory Declaration (for 12 month visa extension) wouldn't it be great if the Australian Embassy provided the same service as the England Embassy.

From the England Embassy:

Services we provide in Thailand

Consular staff in Thailand can:

  • administer an oath, affirmation or affidavit
  • witness a signature
  • make a certified copy of a document
  • unite documents
  • letter confirming pension/income for retirement visa in Thailand (Postal application only)

Instead of thousands of Australians doing an annual and usually very expensive pilgrimage to the Embassy.......................

Yes, of course ANYONE else can request that the Brits pack up and come to CM for a day of service. But why is it no one wants to take the step to personally make the request themselves? They expect others -- the Hon. British Consul or the CEC Club to do it for them. In fact, the answer when the request has been made is that no one seems to be sending them emails from CM asking for it.

What a much of whingers. That's the term, isn't it? What have you to fear in sending a signed email to your own Embassy?

Not sure I am missing something here but I thought they can do all that on the consular visits.

Certainly they have witnessed and put a seal/stamp on my Stat Dec for income for a retirement extension no problems (I typed up the Stat Dec myself)....and was accepted by CM immigration. Much rather do that then have a postal exchange (but accept that it is my preference)

Also have obtained certified true copies done on on a visit as well. Also saw them deal with marriage/passport/divorce stuff as well.

On a retirement extension, with the frequency of visits, there is no need to go to embassy at all given regularity of outreach service.
