BANGKOK: -- APPARENTLY the Thai junta is attempting to take a page of out George Orwell’s dystopian novel ‘1984’, as it is looking to pass several amendments to the Computer Crime Act (CCA) that would allow the state to act like Big Brother, overseeing activities on encrypted websites.

Great Barrier Reef bleaching kills ’35% of coral’ in northern and central section

Mexican soccer player Alan Pulido overpowered kidnappers

CIUDAD VICTORIA, Mexico (AP) — About 24 hours after he was kidnapped, Mexican soccer star Alan Pulido found himself alone with one of his captors and saw his chance. He wrestled away the man's pistol and his cellphone and dialed Mexico's emergency number.

Phuket officials vow action to clean up west-coast dump sites

PHUKET: -- Complaints by local residents have spurred officers at the Cherng Talay Tambon Administration Organisation (OrBorTor) to take action to clear up piles of garbage dumped by the side of the road in the west-coast neighbourhood.

Bangkok police chief vows to punish five station heads if graft stickers surface in their responsible areas

Parents relocate 22 kids to new school amid safety concern after tragic fire
