johnnybgood Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 My desktop packed in, I suspect it is the internal power supply. With Tuc com in decline.... now Harbor mall starting up with an IT section and I think old businesses like Wattana no longer repair stuff. Update from anyone?

Gary A Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 I have a condo on Soi Chaiyapruk Jomtien. My desk top computer had problems that got more and more frequent. There are a line of small stores on the north side of the road near the intersection of Second road. The computer shop has been there for several years. I seldom see any customers in the store. Since it is close to my condo I took the computer to that shop. He fiddled with it for a few minutes and told me it needed a new power supply. He told me the new power supply cost 700 baht. I told him to go ahead. It took him about 20 minutes and the labor charge was included in the 700 baht. The computer is still working and I was satisfied. If you are near Jomtien, It is a lot more convenient that going into Pattaya.
Gary A Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 Gary, I believe that shop which was called Com2U has been closed down for about 6 months. If you know that it has re-opened please report. I would be delighted if so. It is indeed possible that the shop is closed and I wouldn't be surprised. I never understood how he kept it open. I live upcountry and don't often get down there so I don't know.
KhunBENQ Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 (edited) Move to Pattaya forum? In every small upcountry town there are some PC repair shops. I had at least two new power supplies, one CPU exchanged, "special license service" etc. Would really be surprised if there are not dozens in Pattaya? Really no more repair booths at tukcom? dotpoom Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 Pattaya 2U South Pattaya near the Tukcom Parking Garage Link: https://goo.gl/maps/w6XxPFrQYLT2 That's where I go.....but I think since they moved from inside, their prices are rising steadily.
jobsworth Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 power supplies are cheap from 300 THB up. and easy to fit. you just unplug the old one. undo 4 screws and reverse the process. try that first before doung anything else. do any lights come on anywhere like mouse, power button or fan? if so it could be more serious. good luck with it. these days pc repair is no longer rocket science just a question of deciding which new parts to buy.
Commogwinto Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 Don't know if still going, but Liberty Computers might do this, somewhere on 3rd Road, not sure where, but can check on internet, otherwise I have been told there is an IT section in Harbour Mall also, but cannot confirm this. C

johnnybgood Posted June 2, 2016 Author Posted June 2, 2016 Pattaya 2U South Pattaya near the Tukcom Parking Garage Link: https://goo.gl/maps/w6XxPFrQYLT2 Okay lads thanks very much for the replies. Decided on this Pattaya 2u. as Pattaya Klang / 3rd road is no longer an option due to the road/tunnel works. I was quoted 4000 baht and it would be finished in an hour. A bonus was being able to leave the car outside their shop for the duration, so we went for a wee lunch. Refreshingly good service from keen young technicians. P.S. The power supply is a Raider 750W and costs 3500baht so just 500 for the service fee.
soisanuk Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 I have had my last 2 computers built for me by "A" - he also upgraded my oldest twice. Very reliable, he is in Pattaya and works out of his house - he charges 300 baht for house call - on one occasion trying to find a virus he took over 2 hours - still only 300 baht. He speaks fair English, but is a little hard of hearing - so you have to speak up. Several of my friends use him whenever they have computer problems. He is listed as an Expat recommended business on the Pattaya City Expats Club website under Emergency & Useful Numbers tab - then Useful Numbers.

You probably have 3 years warrantee on this new expensive power supply. Last time I bought a 2500baht replacement which blew up in 3 months. Back to the shop in TukCom with the power supply and they sent it of and 3-4 weeks later replaced with a new one. Now the PC has been running fine on a cheap power supply since and the expensive one is still sealed in the box, with about 2 years of warrantee.

Suradit69 Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 Wattana opposite Foodland are excellent Yes, I have used Wattana Systemation several times recently. Quite good. Have also used Liberty Computer in the past. Located north of the TOT building. In the map below, Carrefour is obviously now Big C Extra.

Care to enlighten us why you are not surprised, a why you never understood how he kept it open. Just curious.
