Quick question re converting tourist visa to non b

Featured Replies

Just got my paperwork for non-b. Today is 02 June and my tourist visa expires on 16 June. Are there enough days left on my tourist visa to convert it to a non-b if I go to Chaengwattana immigration today?

To clarify, I have a 60 day tourist visa which has not yet been extended to 90 days.

You need at least 15 days remaining on your entry to apply for the change of visa status.

Since you are eligible for an extension they will likely have you apply for the extension and then do the change.

I didn't know one could change tourist visa to non B. I am also on tourist visa and have all the documents from school required for a conversion. How much does it cost and do I need any other document to give to office in Chaengwattana. Please advise

Since you have a tourist you will apply for a change of visa status.; The fee is 2000 baht.

I didn't know that you could change from a tourist visa to a Non-B without having to leave the country. This is certainly not the case with a retirement extension. I am presently on a retirement extension and have secured a job and I am getting ready to go to Laos with all of my paper work for the Non-B which will allow me to work. Maybe it would be easier for me to jump over a border and then come back on a tourist visa and then apply in Thailand for the Non-B rather then spend three days travelling to and staying in Laos. It is probably unreasonable though and Immigration might get suspicious. Any comments?

Unless you are living in Bangkok you probably would find it easier to go out for the non-b visa. It requires 2 trips to immigration in Bangkok 15 days apart to get the visa.

You might also might want to look at the list of required documents to do the change and compare them to what is needed at a nearby embassy or consulate.

When converting a tourist visa to a Non "B" visa do you get a 3 month non "b" visa first (like you would when applying for the Non "B" visa in Laos) and then get the 1 year visa extension or is it the 1 year visa extension right away?

You get a 90 day visa entry and then apply for the extension during the last 30 days of it.
