NLA approves in principle draft amendment of Corrections Act

BANGKOK, 3 June 2016 (NNT) – The National Legislative Assembly has approved in principle the draft amendment of the Corrections Act.

During its sitting on Thursday, the NLA deliberated on the draft amendment of the Corrections Act, which is needed because the current version of the law has been in effect for too long and is now not in accordance with the country’s policies relating to the prosecution of criminals, according to Justice Minister Gen. Paiboon Koomchaya.

Gen. Paiboon said that the active law also lacks provisions and rules that are in tandem with international practices related to the treatment of inmates and the operations of related officers.

In addition, there is no provision that authorizes corrections officers or law enforcement officers to properly handle those who have been convicted of certain crimes.

Members of the legislature debated the draft and agreed with the principles and the rationale behind the proposal while presenting various suggestions that they believe will further perfect the law.

Then the NLA voted 158 to none, with three abstentions to approve the draft before scheduling a 15-day amendment period within the next 60 days

There is nothing comforting about a unanimous vote of this NLA.

Sometimes they throw in ''3 against'' just for ''legitimacy'', but it's usually 150+ to none -_-
