Survey: Most farmers are happy with government’s drought relief measures

Most farmers in seven provinces in the Chao Phraya river basin are happy with the government’s drought relief measures, said Mr Pumisak Rasri, director of the Agricultural Economics Operations Centre of the Ministry of Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives, on Friday.

The positive response of most of the farmers toward the government’s drought relief measures was based on the opinion survey of 416 samples conducted by the operations centre in Sing Buri, Ang Thong, Lop Buri, Nakhon Nayok, Ayutthaya, Pathum Thani and Nonthaburi.

The opinion survey shows 97.1 percent of the respondents were satisfied with the performance of the ministry in relieving the drought problem; 99.8 percent said they were better informed of the drought situation; 68.1 percent admitted that their livelihood has improved because of the relief measures and 94.6 percent believed the drought information provided by the state was reliable.

Regarding the measure urging farmers to switch to cultivating plants which consume less water, the findings showed that only 29.7 percent of the respondents agreed with the change of crops as most were not convinced that the switching to crops which consume less water would generate enough revenue to make a living.

So out of the 416 surveyed only one stated they were not better informed of the drought situation. Rubbery production from the ministry or just following the Nth Korean method of surveying, perhaps?

Self serving clap trap.

Once there was a research where no farmer was allowed to join in. When they finally came up with the farmers' input, it turned out that not even one farmer was part of the survey.

Other people also call it propaganda. Can't wait to see the good guy on TV again with his informative news where almost all people switch their TV's off.

In a scripted environment what else could they say.

One can't help but noticing the 99% approval rating ,AGAIN , one thing you don't get in polling is that kind of a figure , the best possible outcome is around 64% , amazing Thailand breaks that trend time and again , 7 provinces were canvassed , one can only suggest u go out there again, don't ask leading questions, where you only can answer in the affirmative and this time use a calculator.....................................

How can farmers not be happy?

Prayut's relief measures include:

- watch weather patterns

- plant when the drought ends

- plant when the dams are full

- stop consuming water

- stop tending plants when plants are dead

- dig a lot of wells everywhere

- rainmaking when rainstorms approach

- get a real job

- work for the army vs a real job

- plant something else

- go somewhere else

One can't ignore Prayut's supreme insights to farmer's drought problems. If only Prayut was an elected PM ......

Only 29% happy to cultivate plants that require less water.....so the article doesn't make sense.

Did rainfall have anything to do with the farmers overwhelming content? Didn't see that question in the survey...

Thar's how such a research works. There's not even one happy farmer in this country. Well, maybe Prayuth's relatives.

Based on a "real" research, Thai farmers are the poorest of all ten ASEAN countries. Poor and happy doesn't really fit.
