I'm being told that boarding will be denied for a Thai whose passport has less than 6 months validity remaining.

For visitors, which I assume you are asking about, many countries require the passport to be valid beyond the expiry date of the visa.

Why not simply renew the passport; then there will definitely not be a problem.

A Thai person who wants to go to NZ.

NZ are happy with 3 months validity and obviously a visa for the holiday.

Passport expires 3 months after the holiday is finished.

I've just been shown a post in another forum where a Thai was refused at check in because the passport had less than 6 months remaining validity.

Do they fly direct to NZ or do they via another country? If they fly via another country that could be the problem.

Just an update about this and it seems that Thai Imm' have given the instruction to check in desks that all passports must have 6 months remaining to allow boarding. I'll keep trying to get confirmation on it.

Strangely enough you could have been boarding a bus,train,boat,taxi or motorcycle and travelled to Laos,Cambodia,Malaysia or Myanmar.

Did your source clarify why the Thai Immigration authorities would not allow somebody with a valid travel document for the desired destination to exit Thailand?

Some countries do have a requirement that you have six months validity on your passport when entering the country, some have three and many just require that you have sufficient validity for the intended duration of your visit, if you failed to meet these requirements it would be the check-in staff who denied boarding, not Immigration.

When my wife gets back from the office tonight I will try to get a paste of the story and post it.

As per a previous poster why not just get her new pp. Just asked the tgf how much pp cost her. Answer 1000baht. Does not sound correct but wouldn't be first time. It is unlikely but she may be given 12 month multi, but if occured may cause probkems with shortish time of pp expiry. My gf has a 12 month multi, but it expires before the pp expires. I think max length of stay is 90day. In any event grab a new pp.

Yes you are correct it's 1000 baht for a Thai to get a new passport.

The thread was started to make people aware that it was possible to have a problem with passport validity that may not be apparent, not to ask for information on how to get or how much a passport costs. Not because we have a problem.

Both of us travel overseas regularly and try to keep up with the ever changing situations regarding what is required to do, and that's why we never have a problem.

Just maybe someone would check with their airline prior to travel after reading it and get things sorted before it became a problem.
