CDC fumes at alleged distortionists on draft charter

BANGKOK: -- The Constitution Drafting Committee will ask the Election Commission to investigate the conduct of some elements who have used the social media to give false or distorted information about the draft constitution to the public.

CDC spokesman Udom Rat-amarit said Wednesday that the unidentified elements posted distorted information in the social media to the effect that the 30-baht universal health scheme stipulated in the previous constitutions has been scrapped from the draft charter.

He maintained that interpretation of paragraph two of Section 61 of the draft charter would have no impacts whatsoever on the national referendum.

CDC chairman Meechai Ruchupan, meanwhile, said the spread of false or distorted content of the draft charter amounts to cheating.

He assured that the CDC has not touched on the public’s right of access to health care but, instead, has refined the draft in such a way that the public, especially the poor, will have access to better health care.

On matters which are deemed crucial, Meechai said the CDC had written the draft in a way that makes it compulsory for the government to act on the matters and make them government policies.

Ive never seen a good idea, policy or law that ever required someone to defend it, especially using the threat of legal action.

The CDC and the PM's daily threats only confirm one thing. Its flawed and designed to keep status quo.

It would seem to me that if something is changed, then the old way was scrapped for a new way? It's irrelevant if a portion or all was changed. So where was the problem that they are chasing these people for? Or is this just another attack on people who question or complain about this new draft charter? I'm confused? Since they are not more specific on what was said about the change, it really seems that they are worried people will misinterpret their new draft.

Good thing I'm not Thai. Maybe if I was Thai though, I would understand this more!

Ever wonder why a mere referendum is so important ?

Because not only will it rig a power base.

They won't even bother with the election and try telling the international community that that was their evidence of mandate .

They look insidious conduct themselves in an insidious manner ( oppressing opinions) and are vile in their dogmatic one sided forced view that rules out criticism .

It's the view of many that the representation of Any constitution drawn up whilst under military rule is internationally worthless as evidence of democratic reform.

But in a slight of hand , they think by letting the Thai people vote under duress that they can manipulate a YES outcome.

If they get a resounding NO they will arrest dozens of people blaming them.

Or simply say it was cheating ( voicing opinions that are not the military viewpoint)

What all this does is set in motion events .

The dominos will start to fall and the reactions won't be stopped.

Being held hostage and asked your freedom depends on approval us ruling over you forever is not a freedom.

And that's what this document in effect will do

Meechai said the CDC had written the draft in a way that makes it compulsory for the government to act on the matters and make them government "policies."

Ah. Not this government though, the next one, The one the junta confidently expects to be Thaksin-loyal, and which must therefore be hobbled.

So let's go after those that question or don't bow down to the draft constitution.

That's not what he's saying. He's saying let's go after those that deliberately lie, spread lies and do so for their own agendas.

That's something we're seeing in the US and UK at the moment too - politicians deliberately lying and doing so unashamedly. Seems the new code for political behavior - just lie to get your own way.

We are the only ones capable of telling the truth and explaining the draft so if you don't agree with us you MUST be spreading misinformation.

There is a big difference between what you suggest and the topic of this thread. The government have not done themselves any favors by not allowing open and free debate.

However, this is about a deliberate lie. Bit like Boris the Etonian lying about EU contributions and forgetting to mention the rebates - i,e, the gross figure looked much better in his argument than the net one. Then to suggest he, Gove, and all the other nutters would simply spend it on the NHS!

Seems lying, cheating and the ability to do so without any shame or conscience are the new required skills for politics.

Can't have that. Honesty and integrity are what these people are known for, all over the world.
