Walking Street Shakedowns Or Innocent PR?

Featured Replies

Last night we watched as around 10 police, Tourist Police, other uniformed City officials and a few smug Tourist Police Volunteer entered a couple of bars on Soi Diamond/Walking Street and - well, what? Who knows...but they carried a big ledger, took photos outside each bar, then one of these cretins finished his cigarette and threw it on the ground as he walked off.

I'm sure it was all an innocent exercise in community policing, but I wonder when the army comes in, whether they'll liberate the city from paying illegal payments to corrupt officials, or will they simply take over the gigantic monthly income stream?

What has your question to do with what you wrote?Having issues with foreign TP volunteers?

While I'm sure there may be a few Clint Eastwood wannabee's, in my experience with the foreign volunteers, they have always been friendly and helpful. I have witnessed them skillfully defuse some potentially nasty situations involving often very drunk, nasty and violent foreigners.

Get into a dispute with some of the notorious WS bar staff/thugs and you'll be very happy to have the volunteers show up.

This isn't about Tourist Police Volunteers good or bad - I personally think they're a necessary evil, with some good and some very rotten apples.

It's about whether this exercise I saw last night is anything to do with the army coming in, and whether they'll take over Pattaya's bar corruption payments or end them. They might also want to arrest all the Russians brazenly working on Walking Street...

Now that the army have taken (or are about to take over) running Pattaya from the civilian authority, there are likely to be changes.
