I dont want to drive.

My friend who I am going with, doesn't like the "van" transport but doesn't mind the bus

because I am in no hurry and would like to check out the different areas we would pass through I too am happy with a bus

my appointment is for 12 30 pm at VFS

So my questions are;

Which is the best bus to get?

What would be the best routing, ie for a the train connection?

would I need to "book"

Is there an air conditioned direct bus service to one of the skytrain points?

Thank you for any advice or comments

Buses are every 20-30 minutes from the bus station on Pattaya North. You can't book. Take the Ekkamai bus and get off at either Udom Suk or On Nut BTS and take the BTS to Nana. The Trendy is a short walk from there. Return from the bus station at Ekkamai.

Or you can get off the bus at the last station which is Ekamai bus terminal, and take the BTS from the Ekamai station which is just next to the bus terminal.

On my last 2 visits I have taken a taxi from the front of the Ekkamai bus station to the front doors of the Trendy building. Fare is around 70 Baht. Good value for 2 sharing.

Returning from Ekkamai - make sure you get the direct bus. Friends of mine were once persuaded to board a local bus which visited several towns and stopped at least 10 times. Took them over 3 hours to get to Pattaya.

Have reread post #2.

Sounds like on the way back you can enter at Ekkamai only.

You can get the bus to Pattaya at Bangna, as it picks up from there after Ekkamai, but there would be no advantage of doing this!

The post above mine is correct. Buy your ticket from the main Pattaya window at Ekkamai (#1 or 2, I think). Don't be tempted by the touts or you'll be taken on a magical mystery tour!

Getting off at Ekkamai on the way in is easier, but if you don't have bags, it saves a lot of time to alight at Udom Suk or On Nut and jump straight onto the BTS to Nana.

Agree with above post 7. The last 5? kms are tedious with Sukhumvit traffic. Getting off at the 1st BTS station saves time tho' not necessarily money. Taking a taxi from Ekkamai is excruciating. I sometimes drive this route & it can take an hour from Bang Na Trat to soi 13.

OnNut to Nana is 34 baht by BTS. Probably only 5 baht more than Ekkamai to Nana. I recommend getting off at the first BTS stop offered - Sukhumvit Road is much less reliable than BTS in terms of travel time

I would get to Pattaya bus station at 8am, your not going to jump on the first bus, and the trip can take 2 hours plus at times

I used an agent in Pattaya to do my UK Passport.

No travelling to Bkk, they put in your application and pick it up when it arrives back in Thailand, you pick up your new Passport at their Pattaya Office.

You must be exceeding rich, I'm not unfortunately

I think you may be talking about Key Visa for 5000 Baht plus all the other costs, No thanks!

Being retired and skintish I have plenty of time to take the bus and enjoy a nice day out viewing the scenery (Sic)

but thanks for suggesting an alternative method

Went off to Bangkok VFS, Trendy Building soi 13 with the bus from Pattaya north road and it was great, plenty leg room, airconditioned, set off at 8 20am and arrived at ON Nut around 10 30 am

Took the BTS to Nana and a 120 metre walk to soi 13.and VFS

The passport renewal went off swiftly, so then we wanted to go to pantip plaza and tried in vain to get a taxi meter . we stopped 8 " Taximeter cars"

not one of the Taxis would take us to pantip unless we agreed a fare of 200 baht, this for a trip of maybe 1.5 kilometres

So we didn't go to Pantip, instead we walked to the Siam paragon store and had the nicest fish and chips that I have tasted for a long time (Atlantic cod)

Its time like these when I truly despair of thailand, No more to say, other than thanks for all the helpful posts

Glad it went smoothly

What place did you eat at for the fish?

It was in Siam Paragon but not in the large fancy restaurants but in the food hall, there was a sign saying "Fish & Chip" surprising so and it was some of the best Atlantic cod I have tasted in a long time.

They served the plate of fish chips and salad in a stainless steel frying pan type platter

Well worth the 290 Baht
