A Vaginal Itch

Featured Replies

Ive posted this in the ladies colum as you may have the best advice, i know the doctor is prob best!

I recently had a break of 4 weeks from my wife in which i can honestly say i did not have any sexual activity with anyone else.

When we got back together we naturally had sex after so long apart. Within 2 days of this she began to itch around the outside of her vagina. This has gone on now for more than a week so we shall have to go to the doctor. I have no symptoms at all of anything. When looking closely at her she also has no visble sign of anything obvious.

Any ideas what this may be? i am dreading the doctors visit as it could generate all kinds of questions of our time apart (in which i was faithful) it could be something i have carried for a long time? or just an inoccent infection etc?

Anyone put my very worried mind at rest???

she has got fungus infection in her kitty

go to see a doc, he /she will give her some varginal tablets as Canesten

serious answer now, get her tested for diabetes whilst at the doctors. I started to get a recurring thrush (never had anything before) for several months prior to being diagnosed & it is a not commonly known side effect of the disease.

Thanks guys took her to Bumungrad this morning, they have given her some medication, they have diagnosed a bacterial infection. Strange though that they never asked anything about sexual history or any symptoms that i may have, maybe it really is a woman thing?

Nothing useful to contribute, but just wanted to say I found it curious that you had to post twice that you'd been faithful. Were you looking for a pat on the back that you had managed to rein your animal instincts in for a whole four weeks? :o

You're right... nothing useful to contribute except ask an unnecessary and trollish question.

Please keep the discussion on-topic.

Yes, it's a woman thing. Both fungal and non-sexually transmitted bacterial vaginitis are very common in women. Can happen even if the woman never has sex. Don't worry.

When fungal it can often be transmitted from the female partner to the male partner and then when she is cured, he gives it back to her!

But since your wife's is bacterial, shouldn't be a problem.

Vaginitis can be caused by many things (didn't know about the diabetes tho), such as antibiotics, stress, etc.

And I can see why you would stress your fidelity as some women don't understand that sexual behavior often has nothing to do with vaginitis at all and may assume that the male partner has been unfaithful.

Does climate/humidity have anything to do with it?

Reason why I ask... my wife contracts this from time to time... and passes it to me (itchy balls) and she is extermely apologetic over it. A couple of days of Canesten use and it quickly clears up.

But I do notice that it rarely occurs in the cool/dry season.

Coincidence?

Those nasty synthetic material knickers thai women like to wear don't help. In the west we are told to wear cotton in tropical climates as they can breath & don't allow any fungal infections to ferment (too graphic for 8.30am sorry) Buy her some nice cotton panties & also some vaginal wash & talc. The talc esp is good.

Thanks for the tip Boo. :o

:o I would disagree with the vaginal wash and talc. When I was working as a nurse - some years ago admitedly, we would always advise women not to use anything special( particularly not a douche) :D as it can destroy the normal flora and fauna of the vag. Also, there was some interesting research around 10 years ago on ca. ovary and talc use. Some tumours had been found at PM containing talcum powder and the speculation was that this had migrated up the vagina, along the fallopian tubes and into the ovaries........................I never use it on either me or the girls.

yes, fungal infections (which is what she is getting, since it responds to Canestan) are especially common in hot and humid weather as this promotes fungal growth. As suggested, pure cotton undies will help (and avoid tight slacks).

But even with the greatest care, from time to time, it happens. Best thing is just to notice it as early as possible and treat before it gets bad.

Erm, I don't want to butt in where I'm not wanted (being a man in the ladies section) but if you have had un-protected sex with your partner during this period then you need to get some treatment too.

I don't know if you should see the doctor, but you should put a touch of Canestan on the tip of your penis for a wee while.

PS. I'm not winding you up

Hope I can add my 2 satangs to this Female type subject but I am allergic to nylon and assume a lot of people are, so it's cotton for me.

An interesting point also, if you do wear cotton be aware that some of the dies used in the manufacture can also cause problems.

regards all

Cotton undies definitely help, and I don't mean the ones with "cotton-lined crotches." Go for the granny fabric. Something that I discovered early on in my tropical living -right after my first, and only, fungal infection- was that keeping the vaginal area free of hair really helps. Moisture evaporates better so there's a less hospitable climate, bacteria and fungi can't cling to the hairs so there's less chance of infection.

I was told by the Air Force to never take a tub bath in the Philippines. The off-base water there not only isn't potable, it's too teeming with various lifeforms to make vaginal exposure a good idea. The climate here is similar enough that she could have been infected while swimming, even in a pool if it isn't well-maintained, or by extra-thorough washing up with non-potable water.

Good point Cathy.

My wife refuses to swim in a public swimming pool now... even those communal pools at a moo-baan... she always ends up with a "kun hoi".

:o

No problem at home though... I check the chlorine and pH levels in our pool every 2-3 days.

You're also right on the hair subject... the less there is... the easier it is to keep the area dry.

The current fashion of "tights with everything" also helps to provide a humid environment in which thrush can flourish. If your partner wears tights, they should be comfortable, preferably cotton. She might consider only wearing them when she goes out, and not at home.

polidine soap once or twice a week;

also, go 'combat' when at home, wear a patung -paasin- or loose boxer shorts when at home... this always works for me...no jeans, wash from front to back when washing up, no baths, no soaps, u can use a quick wash with natural vinegar or bio yogurt....

wash from front to back when washing up

i will remember that when i am doing the dishes later!! (Sorry!!)
