June 12, 201610 yr 172 laws have been enacted since 2014, says PM PrayutBANGKOK, 13 June 2016 (NNT) - According to Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha all 172 measures which have been enacted since the start of his administration were issued in the best interests of the country and its people. The prime minister said Thailand has long had problems in the areas of legislation, public administration and the legal system. The administration has sought to solve problems in these areas, during the limited time it has.Addressing long-term issues, he said the government has laid down a strong framework for the future and has made progress in the first phase of resolving these issues.Since 2014 which is when Gen Prayut took office, a total of 172 laws have been promulgated. He said the government does not cater to political interests, but rather upholds the interests of the nation as a whole as well as the common good.Lastly, he said his administration has not and will never attempt to intervene in the judicial process, unlike governments in the past. -- NNT 2016-06-13
June 12, 201610 yr and -172 enforced Exactly, another 172 laws on the books which will be ignored or very selectively enforced. Still it's appropriate to clutch at straws when there's nothing else to boast about having done. Of sorry I forget the major achievements of the lottery and bike lanes.. June 12, 201610 yr Well done. How many people know about them, given the inconsistent implementation or enforcement.
June 12, 201610 yr What would benefit this country and it's people MOST would be if there was genuine, unwavering rule of law. Butttttttttttttttttt this is the land of Lack of Sanctions (LOS) or is it Land of Scams (LOS)?
June 13, 201610 yr And the laws are what exactly? And how do they 'uphold the interests of the nation...'?
June 13, 201610 yr Could we have a list of achievements Please ! Taking over the country, appointing cronies to important positions, granting all concerned amnesty for their actions and making sure their wealth was beyond comment far less investigating. Then there was, um, err, Pass Magnus.
June 13, 201610 yr I wonder being an illegal armed thug who holds the nation hostage and pretends to hold legal authority if he will accept the death sentence imposed against him? His laws are a criminal exercise done with treason as its base
June 13, 201610 yr Future plans are to also pass a law requiring the police to enforce the laws without bias, but such a proposed law will require much study, committee meetings, and maybe even a referendum. Yes, much more study and preparation of the population required before such a law can be passed.
June 13, 201610 yr issued in the best interests of the country and its people He said the government does not cater to political interests, but rather upholds the interests of the nation as a whole as well as the common good. Common good. That's rich. The NLA has been active, most laws are passed with votes of 180:0. There is no oversight, no judicial/legal review, no input from the public, no responsibility to the public. The green and yellow horde simply hand down laws to the serfs. What could go wrong.
June 13, 201610 yr In order for any of those 172 laws to mean anything to anybody, the entire police force, and judicial system would have to be completely dismantled, and rebuilt from the ground up. And it would have to be done without any influence from the vermin families who seem to run nearly everything here, and appear to have very little regard for the common man, woman, and child. In other words, without influence from the elite, the government, or the army. Fat chance of that happening within our lifetime. Instead, Thailand will continue to be held back, by it's stubborn refusal to join the rest of the world, in it's march toward progress, and a meritocracy, and it's fight against corruption and cronyism. My guess, is that within 10-15 years, Thailand will drop from #2 in ASEAN, to #6. And with that drop, a shrinking of the economy, a drop in real estate prices, and the currency, and a general shift away from the country, on the part of major manufacturers, who cannot count on the continued succession of blatantly incompetent governments, to protect their interests.
June 13, 201610 yr Simply enforce the laws you already have moron...that's how you improve society...
June 13, 201610 yr The vast majority of the 172 pointless and stupid. While serious crime goes unenforced.
June 13, 201610 yr 172 laws is not bad but no contest with the last four U.S. President Executive Orders...... Any doubts about government's power grabbing and control? Consolidated list by President President Total George H. W. Bush 166 William J. Clinton 364 George W. Bush 291 Barack Obama 235 Edited June 13, 201610 yr by KenKadz
June 13, 201610 yr ...long way to go.... ...and as for 'enforcement'.....wow....seems like a different matter altogether...
June 13, 201610 yr Could we have a list of achievements Please ! 172 new laws (that are probably confusing and will largely go unenforced) fixed pricing of lottery tickets (did this really happen?) thai woman made it up Everest (only approx 400 woman have done this before) add here.............

Consolidated list by President President Total George H. W. Bush 166 William J. Clinton 364 George W. Bush 291 Barack Obama 235 Not sure how relevant your list is, but maybe better to compare it to the "orders" issued by the NCPO (Junta), rather than "legislation" passed by the rubber-stamping NLA? I've honestly lost track of how many "orders" the NCPO have issued since taking control of the government/country. In the first three months of the coup there was something like 68 "orders", but they may have slowed down as the NLA ramped up their "program"? I think they are up to (at least) 25 "orders" for 2016. And they did slap together an interim charter (2014). No slouches here. Edited June 13, 201610 yr by mtls2005
June 13, 201610 yr "According to Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha all 172 measures which have been enacted since the start of his administration were issued in the best interests of the country and its people." Missed out a bit - there, I put in for him. According to Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha all 172 measures which have been enacted since the start of his administration were issued in [ what he or his bosses think are in ] the best interests of the country and its people. I think the poor luvvies get confused between 'law enactment' and 'law enforcement'. Bless 'em... No point enacting more laws if you can't/won't enforce the ones you've already got... yes? Winnie I was seriously thinking of sodding off to saner climes last week. 'Til someone pointed out that if I left, the average IQ in Thailand would go down by 6%.
June 13, 201610 yr Strong framework for the future. He has the whole thing bricked in steel roof and bars on the windows and steel doors. The American congress passed 220 laws last session they used to do about a 1000 decades ago. Guess things are running that smoothly that no new laws are need. 172 for 2 years seems awfully low but again maybe things are running smoothly here. With article 44 and rifle barrel ruling who needs many laws. Edited June 13, 201610 yr by elgordo38

June 15, 201610 yr I think "Article 44" covers any law here anyway, or at least supercedes the due process of law, so the good General is probably correct. Enacted in the best interests of the country, and the snouts of the hogs currently in the feeding trough of public funds.
