Poll: Students gamble on Euro 2016

BANGKOK, 15 June 2016 (NNT) - A survey has found that more than 45% of students in 10 provinces will likely gamble on the Euro 2016 games mostly via online channel. An academic institution advised parents to keep an eye on their children.

The Center for Gambling Studies of Chulalongkorn University and its network on Tuesday announced the results of the survey on gambling behavior during Euro 2016 with more than 3,800 high school and vocational education students in 10 provinces. The survey found that more than 67% of the students thought that gambling did not only depend on luck but also on analytical skills. More than 45% of them said they had gambled on Euro 2016 by betting on their favorite teams.

The survey also found that their gambling money ranged from 500 – 5,000 baht. The students said they used their savings to gamble and most of them gambled through websites, sports newspapers and TV respectively.

The center suggested that parents and all sectors in the society help prevent students from gambling and that the government seriously and continuously enforce the laws.
