Public Health Ministry warns mothers not to feed too much sweets to their children

The Spokesman of the Ministry of Public Health, Mr. Sa-nga Damapong, has warned parents not to feed soft drinks to their young children as these beverages contain sweeteners that can cause obesity and caries.

Obesity is found in 13 percent of children who are studying in kindergarten, while 72 percent of them have decayed teeth. Many researches also agree that mothers of infants or impregnated women should not consume too much sweet food items or drinks as their children could be addicted to sweets until they grow old.

Mr. Sa-nga said mothers should breast-feed their infant for six consecutive months along with baby foods. Once they become older, they should eat nutritious foods and avoid consuming foods with too much sugar or fat.

:D Good advice. I cringe when I see junior sucking a straw in a coke or fanta or sprite. Another thing that really gets my goat is chewing gum :o . Since how long has it been acceptable to give three year olds gum? :D:D

Of the 20 children in my youngests class, she and three other farang (out of 19) children are the only ones without fillings. One poor child has four crowns in her baby teeth. :D
