BANGKOK, 20 June 2016 (NNT) - The Prime Minister has confirmed the existence of strong cooperation between Thailand and India, while pledging full support and business guarantees for Indian investors.

During his official visit to India, Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha made a courtesy visit to Indian Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari, during which they discussed stronger cooperation between the two countries while following up on the progress of issues discussed during their February meeting in Thailand.

The focus of the follow-up talks included both countries’ policies to promote trade, investment and tourism that will help strengthen ties and encourage mutual understanding among Indians and Thais.

The two also discussed the development of the connectivity project to make Thailand and India the gateways of ASEAN and South Asia.

Later, Gen. Prayut attended the Thai-Indian business seminar and a dinner reception organized by the Thai Embassy in India and three business associations of India, during which talks on economic cooperation to facilitate the endeavors of both nations’ investors took place.

Hang on. When the news articles remind us of the long and uninterrupted 40 year diplomatic relationship between China and Thailand it is suggested that Thailand is becoming a dictatorship.

Glad to see they now want to be a democratic republic like India!!!

Lets hope trade does blossom which at the end of the day benefits the majority which I assume we all want it to do.

Considering India withdrew it troops from Thailand albeit 45 or 50 as gesture of disgust with the coup and called for an immediate return to democracy I find it a bit rich that they now entertain a junta that has and continues to do the exact opposite of democracy and is using all sorts of triggers to make some sorry excuse to allow the people a vote and cling on to power which they now have a taste of and crave for so much.

Sorry but IMO Thailand's trade focus seems to be something other than mutual benefit... as is typical. Unfortunately I see everything Thai as ONE WAY. I'm probably incorrect but that's been my experience so far. Are imports allowed w/out a large tax, which lowers their desirability? How would genuine "fair trade" impact all the monopolies in Thailand? Will Wal-Mart be invited to open a chain of stores in the near future?

Tourism? Will Thais (well not the average Thai that - if lucky - visit the nearest large city to shop at Big C. ) vacation in India? Or is Thailand proposing Indians coming here to see the beautiful city of Pattaya?

Nothing was achieved, and for this 'offical' visit, even the dinner was arranged and paid for by the Thai government, through the Thai Embassy.

What a humiliation. The atmosphere at meetings between Prayuth and the Indians must have been just embarrassing.

So it was a pointless and unproductive trip as no MOUs were signed, no businesses were concluded and no mention of the free trade negotiation.

Well I suppose the ( elected) Indian leaders had a bit of a giggle afterwards...

ACTUALLY, their TECH guys are more curious as to why thailand seems to be an easy target for hackers with ZERO security protocols. When ever india gets hacked, thailand is the proxy. So naturally for better security for the country you will have to firewall thailand. Thailand doesnt need a firewall. the rest of the world will build it anyways.

Its like the "strong" cooperation with china. china is not here to improve thailand. only to exploit it like every other country.

Will be mighty strange for Mr. Modi, architect of India economic success and world traveler to get more trade. Must be wondering to himself, why didnt he just call.

I am surprised the TV Moderator allowed this statement. You suggest (incorrectly) that Prayut supports a republic form of government for Thailand in contravention of Thailand's constitutional monarchy. Obviously, every Thai provisional and permanent constitution has supported a democratic constitutional monarchy.

I believe that 2 MOU's were signed. The only MOU's that India seemed to want to sign were for 'cultural exchange'. Unquote.

"And no dinner for you at our expense General Grumpy. get your embassy to feed you, that way you pay."

How humiliating...

Correct. Those were for cultural exchange and academic cooperation. I expected more like inking some business deals and nailed down MOUs for more trade between the 2 countries. Trade between the 2 countries is rather small. India will soon become the 3rd largest economy by 2020 and expected more efforts to increase trade. The trade between Thailand and Singapore is larger. This kind of economic and entrepreneurial vision is really not the General strength.
