WWF calls on Thailand to protect its wild tiger population

BANGKOK, June 21 2016 (NNT) - Thailand has been cited by the World Wide Fund For Nature (WWF) as home to one of the five most fertile habitats for tigers. The non-governmental organization has called for understanding from all sectors to effectively restore the tiger population.

WWF Thailand revealed that since 1970, the world’s tiger population had been reduced from 35,000 to approximately 3,200, due to poaching and deforestation. According to a survey by the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN), 250-300 tigers remain in Thai forests, while 2,226 tigers remain in India and 433 in Russia.

Due to conservation and repopulation efforts in 2010, the tiger population has slowly increased. The WWF has urged Thailand to conserve its tiger population, as the apex predator plays a significant role in the ecosystem and managing prey populations.

News of funding and a program of practical assistance from the WWF would be more useful. Anyone can sit there urging people to do this or that.

There is some startling information you can gather just by googling, Thailand wildlife , and just see all the wild animals that have been decimated, the amount of habitat destroyed with deforestation , its all there and it ain't a good look , but then again neither is Australia's record..................................

Yes, it makes sense but 99.9999% of Thais lack common sense so this won't happen.
