Getting a METV in-person in USA at any consulate? And if unemployed?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Quick question - for US citizens, is it possible to get a METV in-person at any Thai consulate (for example, the one in Los Angeles or San Francisco, where I live) - or can I *only* get it in-person at the Washington DC embassy?

Also, can I get a METV if I am currently unemployed (I'm on sabbatical), but can show more than enough bank funds to last me years? I have $180k USD in savings...would this offset the need to show employment?

Thanks so much...the info about the METV are quite vague about this point in particular...hoping someone who has gotten a METV can help me with some info.

My reply to the question about where you can apply in your other topic. "You can apply at any of the 3 official consulates in LA, Chicago and NY or any of the honorary consulates not just the embassy."

There is no consulate in San Francisco. List of honorary consulates is here: http://thaiembdc.org/royal-thai-honorary-consulates-general-in-the-u-s/

The consulate in Oregon does not mention proof employment. See: http://www.thai-or.com/visa-information/

If I recall correctly it was not asked for at the consulate in LA according to a report in the pinned topic about METV's.

hi Ubonjoe, thanks for your reply. Sorry, I started this thread before I saw your other reply. I'll try to call the LA embassy and get a clearer answer about this, but I have a feeling it's not that easy to get in touch with them, haha.

You will only get the definitive answer from the Embassy/Consulates, but I would think there is a good chance with that level of savings. I wouldn't say unemployed as it tends to apply to someone wanting to work that can't.

You're not unemployed, you're self employed.

I would do it by mail at one of the honorary consulates, such as portland, oregon or dallas, tx
