When a Non-Immigrant "O" Visa Expires and the Next 90 days

Featured Replies

I have a Non-Immigrant "O" Visa that expires on 21 September 2016, it was obtained in my home state in Houston based on visiting my daughter. The visa I am using now is the second one I got from Houston. I have two questions - do I have to go back to Houston to get it renewed or can I get it renewed in Thailand? and second, if I leave Thailand and return on 20th September 2016 by air, do I get another 90 days even though this covers the period the visa expires.

Enter before the Visa expires to get 90 days entry.

If you are 50 years old or older and your daughter is on a extension of stay that qualifies for it you could get a one year extension as her dependent.

If you are 50 or over you could also apply for a extension based upon retirement if you can meet the financial requirements.

You will get another 90 day entry if you do it on or before the enter before date on your visa if it is a multiple entry visa.

The expiration of the visa would only matter if it is a multi-entry visa, assuming you are now in Thailand. If it is multi-entry, you could exit the country and return before the visa expires and get another 90 day permission to stay. Just travel to a neighboring country and immediately return to Thailand.

If it was a single entry visa and you have used it to enter Thailand, the visa has been used and the visa expiration date is irrelevant. Your presence in the country is determined by the permission of stay stamp you were given by immigrations when you entered the country.

Visas are never renewed or extended, but your permission to stay might be extended by immigrations as outlined by Ubonjoe.

Failing that, you could go to a neighboring country to obtain a tourist or non-imm o visa. No need to go back to Texas to do it.

Do you have a suggestion on where or upon what basis he would get that non-o visa. It certainly would not be a multiple entry visa.
