Rio 2016: Jaguar shot dead at Olympic torch ceremony

RIO DE JANEIRO: -- A jaguar has been shot dead shortly after an Olympic torch ceremony in Brazil.

The female – named Juma – escaped its handlers after the event in Manaus.

Despite firing four tranquiliser darts the cat was reportedly shot when she attacked a solider.

Animal rights campaigners have criticised the stunt, whilst organisers for the Rio Games also admitted it was a mistake to chain the wild animal next to the Olympic touch.

very bad omen

What a waste of a beautiful creature's life

What a beautiful creature .

It should be out in it's natural habitat and not tied to a chain for a show .

It died because people are stupid , once again ...

Oh , I forgot , it's natural habitat , the amazonian jungle is disappearing very fast now .

Muggings and now animal shootings, all we're missing is a rape, a murder and a kilo of coke for this to be the complete Rio experience  I wonder what car Thomas Bach drives these days >_>

This Olympics could become one of the most memorable in Olympic history...given the location, mentality, and uncertainty of the Brazilian leadership there...

A kind of dark comedy unfolding at the peril of the athletes...

i agree with you there. bit like having trump running for president, i have never been interested in politics before, even in my own country.

should probably add i am not that happy about the cat getting killed, i dont see that as entertaining. RIP.

The olympics will focus the spotlight on what we already know, Brazil is the armpit of the universe !

Unbelievable!

"........next to the Olympic touch." Nice Freudian slip there, accurately describing a scam to separate fools from their money.

BTW the Olympic flame relay goes all the way back to 1936, the brainchild of one Joseph Goebbels. Love him or hate him, he knew his business.

This makes me mad as hell. Some marketing a$$#^&s thought that this creature would make a nice decoration at the torch ceremony!

What a waste of the life of such a majestic animal.

Juma should now be the mascot of the Olympics, to highlight all that's wrong about this wretched and corrupted event.

What a splendid animal, i used telepathy to read the

Jaguars mind,, you know what it was thinking?

''what the hell am i doing here, who are these strange

animals, i'm getting pretty hot lying on these concrete

pavers, oh i'm really hot, give me some water, i can't

stand it, i'm going to sit under a cool shady tree''

bang
