Man Arrested Over Murder of Officer

Featured Replies

A university student was arrested on Wednesday and will be sent to court today over the murder of military officer Ly Davy, who was stabbed multiple times in broad daylight in Phnom Penh’s Toul Kork district on Tuesday. Colonel Hun Sothy, chief of the Toul Kork police, said 21-year-old Mey Kimheng, who is studying mathematics at the Royal University of Phnom Penh, lived near the victim in Toul Kork’s Phsar Depo I commune.

A district police officer who asked to remain anonymous told Khmer Times the suspect was arrested based on security camera footage where the murder took place. He said police were able to match the clothes and motorcycle seen in the video to Mr. Kimheng, as well as based on a wound he received during the attack.

“Police could identify him and knew the suspect based on images from the CCTV cameras from a neighbor’s house near where the incident occurred,” he said. He said during police questioning Mr. Kimheng initially denied the allegations, however after police showed him the evidence, he admitted to murdering Ms. Davy and said he did it because of unrequited love.
