KANCHANABURI: -- Immigration officials in Kanchanaburi found 25 illegal Burmese immigrants packed into a specially adapted pick-up truck.

The people smugglers had managed to squeeze many people into a cab and packed more under a concealing plastic cover in the back, reported Thairath.

Immigration were acting on a tip off and followed the truck before attempting an arrest on the Saeng Chuto Road in Kanchanaburi town. A high speed chase ensued but the pick up eventually stopped.

The Thai driver Paweenwat Niramit, 34, was charged with people smuggling.

The 25 Burmese were charged with illegal entry to Thailand. One called Mew, 30, was questioned further after he was found with a Ya Ba pill.

Authorities said that the pick-up had been specially adapted to carry a large amount of people. It had special shock absorbers to take a heavy load. There were a total of twenty people in the cab and six in the back, they said.

Packed in olive oil or tomato sauce? Amazing.

20 in the cab.....I'd like to see that!

You'd have to hope that he'd supercharged the aircon as well.

How do you fit 20 people in a dual cab? Interlocking stacking?

Is it wrong to imagine 20 women, like scissors?

This will probably be the last we will hear about it - those who organised the people-smuggling operation (with the exception of driver Paweenwat) remain free to continue their activities.

Just as well the cops got a tip off, otherwise I suspect they would have been none the wiser!

They get more than that. The bloke that ran the school bus minivan taking my daughter, during the school holidays decided to supplement his income by transporting a load of Cambodian illegal workers to Bangkok to work on the building sites. Got caught and received 6 months for his trouble.

Human rights of the Burmese migrant workers will now fall on deaf ears as Aung San Sui Kyi said the other day they should be good little slaves to the Thai people.

would not get through that truck, not for all the 'illegals', but for the fact they did not pay customs duty on the bicycle.

Why in the photo is the pick-up's reg. No. hidden..? Same truck will be doing the same run next week..& other trucks just like it..all owned by the same person..follow the truck, & it may have ended up at a fishing port..OH but that smells fishy... & hints of slavery!

People smuggling and drug trafficking, after all 1 ya ba pill was found.

I once fitted 21 in a Jazz but I admit some were children.

You could do away with all this in one moment by making it possible to hire "alien" ASEAN-citizen without this endless paper trail. Tried to hire Indonesian and Philippinas to no avail; could not deal with those dinosaurs at the Labour Department (did you notice that English is not a spoken language at this department's section of foreign labour?).

Subsequently closed that particular business and made 9 Thai redundant.
If I cannot get the staff to do my business here ......... I take my business elsewhere; simple as that wai2.gif

They can not be bothered to check fluid in the battery of their trucks, but some little wizard found the time to space and arrange to

get 25 people into a 4 door pickup cab.

This may qualify as a bonafied Thai invention, might not have a large potential market, but the fellow found a calling of some sort, for sure.

Wonder how fast it will run, fully loaded, driver must be fair to meddling as he did not wreck during the chase.
