Yingluck stands trial for rice scheme amid supporters

BANGKOK: -- Former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra appeared in the Supreme Court today for the 10th hearing of state testimonies against her in the rice-pledging scheme which she was charged with dereliction of duties.

She arrived in the compound of the Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Political Office Holders before 9 am amid supporters shouting her “happy birthday” and giving her flowers with best wishes that she get through all bad things.

Today is the final day when state witnesses will testify the court against her rice scheme and her negligence to monitor the scheme properly.

Several senior members of her Pheu Thai party were on hand to boost her spirit.

They included acting party leader Pol Lt Gen Viroj Pao-in, former PM’s Office Minister Warathep Rattanakorn, and party’s secretary general Poomtham Vejjayachai.

As today was the 84th anniversary when democracy was established since 1932, she said she wanted that democracy returns to the country soon.

She wanted to see clean referendum which is just 40 days ahead and call on the Election Commission to stay neutral in holding it.

Miss bad luck and rent a crowd,

she wants to see a clean referendum,

pity she did not run a clean government.

Oh good grief. Time for all the Shinawatra fans to smell the burnt coffee. The Shinawatras have had their day. They are done.

Now is the time for a Thai with real vision and leardership skills to stand up and lead this country forward (Prayut ain't it).

Seems like a repeat of the scene at the UFO temple.

Not to worry no doubt the "new" constitution will produce one on demand. From what I understand any future PM and or politicians have to walk the straight and narrow or go to the hoosegow. No doubt the decider of this will be above reproach and neutral in thinking. This should do wonders in producing good "honest" politicians.

wouldnt credit you could get that many losers all together for a photo shoot, really have to wonder if any of them have an education above grade school or even pre school, apart from all the certificates etc that were paid for so they dont appear to be stupid of course. Probably took her all week to memorize that sentence too, although it was short and sweet so she could remember it without any prompting. Good old yl, her ptp dogs and reds, always good for a laugh

only 3 more years before you ban from politics runs out and you can be a politician again. can keep growing mushrooms till then, or become a monk if you are found guilty. on a more serious note i hope she has moved most of her money out of the country, she might have to pay for her crimes in cash.

You put it into the most simplest terms possible. There are no other candidates that can win a fair election in Thailand. The Shinawatras will hold on so long as there is something worth holding on to. They are still loved by a huge voting block. Just wishing they will go away has changed nothing up to now.

Sadly, we've still got a long, long way to go with that roadmap (with all its twists and turns, detours, and dead-ends).

What a bland report. She went to court and was feted by some well wishers and Pheua Thai grandees but nothing about how the case is going in court.

Watch the video. This is the best video I've seen of Yingluck and her supporters, POV, emotional. If ever there is a documentary made about Yingluck or her family, this will definitely be shown. Well worth a watch.

This is the real Thailand. I may support yellow or red but this is Thailand to it's core. A fascinating glimpse into Thailand's politics.

I hope that brother Thaksin was there on Skype to apologize for getting her in such trouble. If she has to pay 287 billion Baht, I expect that Thaksin will demand payments from all the people who have benefited from his parties' crooked schemes over the years. I can't see him coughing up the money.

Well, apart from..."Today is the final day when state witnesses will testify the court against her rice scheme and her negligence to monitor the scheme properly."

It's such a shame that a very likable woman has allowed her life to be messed up almost beyond repair by helping her brother with his nefarious schemes.

It's schools out day. Lots of juveniles posting.

Dwindling junta supporters on here never comment on hardly anything these days except when they see the the name Yingluck !

Why?

Because deep down they backed the wrong horse.

The horses name is democracy.

So which horse are you backing?

Perhaps you should increase your psittacosis medication.

...wow...what money does to people....and can continue to do.....

...does anyone expect a guilty verdict....

Do you mean this new Constitution could make things any worse for the Thais and Thailand? ...Or only for the politicians and 'clans' having to part from 'the trough' they shared till now? What in fact are you 'braking a lance' for? For nepotism and corruption?

The problem remaining being to find any new 'leadership' not yet rotten to the core with corruption, nepotism, etc. ...IMO, sadly, alas, nothing there today!

I suspect your the one backing the wrong horse if you think the name yingluck (or any shin namer) has any connection to democracy.

True, but a deeper point is that Thailand does have plenty of highly capable folks with good morals and values who really want to contribute to the development of Thailand and take the country forward with benefits for all, fair justice etc., and good governance.

But 99% of them wouldn't want to be associated with any of the past parties and their games and tricks and lies.

Going to take a while yet

Still 'stuttering', aren't we? What 'democracy'? When was there anything, even vaguely, related to essential, true, democratical principles in this country? Please, tell us, wise man! There's a democracy monument in Krung Thep, as there is a monument to the revolution(*), but, has there, ever, been any revolution here, ...or democracy? Be honest, with yourself, man!

(*) The, so-called, 'revolution' was a palace-putsh organised with a small fringe of the armed forces by 'elites' the most social(ist) King in Thai History had p...ed off deciding not to pay them for living a wealthy life abroad anymore the rich allowances they were becoming from the Crown previously, as the 1930's World financial crisis had taken its toll on the State's finances, and the coffers were empty, not even allowing it anymore to provide the basic population with the little protection it hed been granted! What a 'revolution' that was, wow!

Psittacosis is a disease a human can contract after being bitten by a, stuttering of any normal, parrot, alas, so, this 'contributor', alas, seems to be immune to it...

When you'd replace 'likable' with 'vain', I could agree with you...

Whatever she does during that time, ...or 'doing time', anything which could possibly start her growing a backbone of her own, outside of Thaksin, Shins and politics, and by the age of 60 she could become as mature as young politicians, half her age by then, in first world countries, and lead a, really democratic, socialist red-shirts movement which would have evacuated all of its paid procto-communists and agitators...

What a dream: an adult and responsible cry-baby poofed-up Poo leading the one-finger-in-the-mouth-one-finger-in-the-... masses of N. and N-E. towards 'democracy', LOL

Shins // 'fair elections', OK then, go and get your pointy hat and little trumpet, you deserved it, LOL

What did you have? Things you drink, smoke, ingest, or a combination? Pathetic post, allow me. 'The real Thailand', yeah, sure...

Rent a crowd????

If her popularity is not real: Why the fear of elections? Why the gerrymandered undemocratic constitution? Why the need for Section 44?
