Social media calls out Pattaya officials for broken South Road parking promises

PATTAYA:--Pattaya officials are again promising to clean up the chaotic parking situation on South Road following embarrassing posts on social media.

A video clip posted to Facebook showed a drive along the busy thoroughfare where more than half the road was taken up with disorganized food carts and double-parked vehicles.

Comments blasted the vendors and motorists for selfishness and city officials for failing to bring order to the street near Chaimongkol Temple.

Chonburi Deputy Gov. Chawalit Saeng-Uthai acknowledged complaints have been received about the disorganized mess and said authorities are working on a fix.

Parking on South Road long has been a problem and the city several years ago introduced alternate-side parking to free up each side of the road on odd and even dates. However, like so many city hall initiatives, enforcement was dropped after the press conference ended and media left.

it's a freakin' mess and not only South Pattaya Road near the nightmarket and the Wat Chai Mongkol.

Give those market-<deleted> a single centimeter and they claim and take all the space that seems them appropriate.

Gutless officials

However, like so many city hall Thai initiatives, enforcement was dropped after the press conference ended and media left.

On market days I have seen vehicles being towed that were parked on the wrong side of the road.

I like this style of reporting, saves us the effort to point it out that this is how it always goes in Thailand.

Actually, I was just there, near the market, and the police were going up and down the street hauling away vehicles parked illegally. Some action is being taken.

they have been ticketing stuff and towing cars like no bodies business today.

publicity is everything

they have been ticketing stuff and towing cars like no bodies business today.

publicity is everything

yes, today ........... but how long will this initiative last ? another day ? 2 days ?

By Monday, if not Sunday, will be back to normal.

On the left-hand side of the road, 1 lane parked cars, lane 2, 1 lane of empty Baht Buses, lane 3, coaches delivering and collecting Chinese tourists. Leaving 1 free lane. Lane 5, right-hand lane, parked cars.

enforcement was dropped after the press conference ended and media left.

So very true, there are so many initiatives that have gone that way.

Why do so many people want to organize Thailand? Learn to avoid the fray and enjoy the show.
