Kingdom’s Soldiers to Receive Martial Arts Instruction Cambodian soldiers will learn three traditio

Cambodian soldiers will learn three traditional fighting disciplines in an initiative announced by government officials and members of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC). Members of the Cambodian Boxing Federation, the Bokator Federation and the Yutakhun Khom Federation will impart their knowledge to the Kingdom’s newest recruits in the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, according to a Memorandum of Understanding signed at the NOCC headquarters in Phnom Penh on Wednesday.

Vath Chamroeun, secretary general of the NOCC, was joined by senior officials from the Cambodian Boxing Federation and the Yutakhun Khom Federation to announce the historic step. Hun Manet, lieutenant general of the Cambodian Armed Forces, presided over Wednesday’s press conference, along with Tourism Minister Thong Khon and Ith Sarath, deputy commander of the Armed Forces.

Mr. Chamroeun, who also serves as president of the Cambodian Bokator Federation, said the agreement will help preserve Cambodia’s cultural heritage and also serves as an important tool for the Kingdom’s soldiers. Cambodia is currently lobbying for its ancient martial art of Bokator to be added to UNESCO’s list of intangible cultural heritage of humanity.
