Lopburi steps up efforts to prevent electrical accidents with monkeys

LOPBURI, 27 June 2016 (NNT) – The Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA), Region 3, in Lopburi province has developed tools made of zinc to prevent monkeys from electric shock. The tools are installed at electric poles across the province.

The PEA Region 3 has installed the tools after many monkeys died of electric shock. These 1 m. X 1 m. tools prevent monkeys from reaching and climbing to high voltage cables. The PEA Region 3 has also moved low voltage power poles away from high voltage ones.

The PEA Region 3 is putting high voltage electricity wires underground for 300 meters in front of Phibunwithayalai School since electrical accidents involving monkeys often cause power outages in the province.

Now I understand why the wires atop of Thailand's power poles always look like bowls of spaghetti. They have monkeys doing all the work! What an amazing country! cheesy.gif

By tools, I assume they mean climbing barriers. I can just imagine a monkey jumping out onto a wire and then swinging across to the next.

Have a guess how many birds are killed by power lines each year.

I thought it was The Monkey who put the wires up in the first place

Wait for the "spik Thai dai" Thai-o-philes to descend on you saying you're calling Thais monkeys...

Dementers to a man.

More than 1 member been banned by the unpaid staff for saying such an outrageous thing...

Are we allowed to call them APES??? ????

I wouldn't. Monkeys, apes, simian, all verboten. Anything that a Thai might conceivably be offended by. Cannot.

Advertising you see... though I'm told it's well down on the numbers used to make the purchase seem attractive.

May be a moral to be had there somewhere...

12 months, no longer, perhaps less.

Lopburi is the only city I know where humans stay in caged buildings while monkeys riam freely outside.

Really? Just the one...?

Seemed like more than that...

Woke up grumpy today, Winnie? I usually enjoy your posts much (and I "liked" many of them) but you seem a bit over the edge in this thread wink.png

Just saying...

I was just rhymed over something especially trivial. No matter, everyone got to get their jollies. Short enough tenure.

I'll try to stop gnawing the table... sowwy.

I blame Mr. Peter Gabriel for this!.

"Shock" is an odd name for a monkey.

Slightly off topic but I'm always amused when I go to Homepro for something electrical to discover they are having a Shock Sale. They are quite regular events.

If you see a monkey sizzling in the wires, don't touch. The approach could work, but I see a problem with the locals getting cravings for grilled meat. Zzzzzzap.
