Israel and Turkey to normalise ties

ROME: --After three years of talks Israel and Turkey have reportedly agreed to restore ties.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry had no immediate comment on the announcement which was made by a senior Israeli official travelling in Rome with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

They’ve been encouraged by Washington, to end a rift over the Israeli navy’s killing of 10 Turkish pro-Palestinian activists who tried to sail to the blockaded Gaza Strip in 2010.

An official announcement on the normalisation of full ties is expected on Monday.

...strange bedfellows....

The question that springs to mind is why now?

Eh?

This was discussed on earlier topics, I think. Negotiations on normalization were going on for a long while now. Nothing sudden about this. Time had to pass for some things said to be (half) forgotten (or more correctly, ignored), time had to pass for face saving compromises to be agreed. Doubt it will work as planned for long.

an agreement benefiting both sides but turks look like protected their pride and honor whereas Israelis lost some.

if i were Israel, i dont agree anything with bigot Erdogan.

still, Israel has zero allies in the region ans turks lost most of their allies too so a beneficial agreement for both sides by leaving their emotions aside. Israelis and Turks were close friends before anyway.

and good thing is sanctions are weakened for Gaza now after this agreement and turks are sending 10 000 tonne of humanitarian aid next week right away there and building a hospital, saline water treatment plant and more for Gaza.

these will bring more stability, i hope and believe, and benefit Israel too.

but Israelis, please check those cargo ships coming from Turkey properly just in case as i never trust Erdogan!

I agree for once Erdogan is a nasty piece of work and there must be some tangible reason for giving him the time of day. As for Israel being friendless, try scratching below the surface and you will de-facto cooperation between Israel, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the GCC. Now Turkey.

Yes, all fascist birds of a feather. Make excellent bedfellows for the current right wing Israeli government.

Good news re relief for Gazans...maybe the beginning of a thaw. I hope Israel continues the de-escalation.

delete repeat. Some problem at TVF
