BANGKOK: -- A group of pro-democracy academics has demanded the National Council for Peace and Order to release seven student activists recently arrested by authorities for campaigning against the August 7 national referendum on the draft constitution.

A written statement which was signed by 292 academics who called themselves network of academics for people’s rights said, in essence, that, for the sake of legitimacy, the referendum must be conducted under free atmosphere.

Among the lecturers who signed up the statement were Dr Anusorn Unnano, dean of the faculty of sociology and humanities of Thammasat University, Puangthong Pawakarapan of Chulalongkorn University’s political science faculty, Kasien Techapira of Thammasat University’s faculty of political science, former senator Jon Ungphakorn and Charnvit Kasetsiri.

Their only crime is having an opinion and not showing full love and devotion to Prayuth.

There's another 292 candidates for the adjustment camps.

Slowly it looks like more and more are speaking out. Takes a bit of guts in these uncertain times.

No, No keep these dangerous, subversive lawbreakers in custody as they are a serious threat to the nation.

Meanwhile those and such as those can run rings around the law and those tasked to enforce it and all that happens are letters asking them to play nice.

more and more are seeing prayuth and his junta for what they really are. 18 months ago he was considered the messiah by many on here and now they have seen him in a different light. Those disciples are now an extinct species.

What I don't understand is why would so-called western educated people here on TVF support a junta that has no problem gaoling students?

Now if the draft was free and open for discussion/debate, with facts not rumors then there would be no problems.

It has been voted down once and the powers that be didn't like the umpires decision so have another crack and anyone who criticizes it goes too gaol.

Hmmm they do the same thing with governments, don't like umpire's decision so throw them out put in a selected government, have elections loose again throw the gov't out again junta rule again suppress freedoms and gaol any one that posses a threat to their power.

You should be ashamed of yourselves...

No chance of a Thai taking on someone who is as powerful, maybe more so, than himself so better stick to pushing students and the like around.
