Cabinet passes bill on rehabilitation of young delinquents

BANGKOK, 29 June 2016 (NNT) – The Cabinet has granted approval to a draft law on the provision of rehabilitation for child and youth offenders while acknowledging progress of the policy to promote extracurricular activities in school.

Assistant Government Spokesman Col Athisit Chainuwat made known that the Cabinet agreed during its weekly meeting to the proposed draft law related to the rehabilitation of delinquent children and youth. The draft law is intended to allow the young offenders to learn from their mistakes while in custody before returning to society.

Col Athisit said, since there are currently no agencies directly responsible for rehabilitation works at juvenile detention centers, the draft law seeks to establish a committee, to be chaired by the Minister of Justice, with the authority to set directions for solving the juvenile delinquency problem, rehabilitating young offenders and enforcing the law in a more effective manner.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education informed the Cabinet of results of the project to reduce class time and increase play time in school, saying students who are involved in extracurricular activities have become more generous and united while many have discovered their hidden interests and talents. Students of participating schools have also scored higher on O-NET exams than those of other schools.

Ah Yes,Rehabilitation will consist of the young men to work at the estates of th cabnet members. And the young girls ? Well which private clubs or services do you think that they will be "working" at ?

maybe by teaching them to have respect for others would be a huge help before they are old enough to get into trouble, removing all the "face" crap would also be a huge bonus in many cases. Parental skills are seriously lacking in Thailand and kids are not taught to have regard for anyone else apart from themselves, time to advance towards the 21st century and get rid of the archaic parental methods, same with the governing/policing of the country.
