Children in Uthaithani infected with hand, foot and mouth disease

BANGKOK, 29 June 2016 (NNT)-Uthaithani Primary Educational Service Area (UPESA) Office 2 has ordered the temporary closure of a private school after young children were found to have come down with hand, foot and mouth disease.

According to UPESA 2 Director Sithichai Keeratikunakorn, three students in Nong Chang district became infected with hand, foot and mouth disease while they were at school. Later two other students from the same school also contracted the contagious disease but were recuperating at home at the time of the inspection.

The school will be closed next week to allow its staff to begin disinfecting classrooms and the playground. Classes will resume once the sanitization process is completed. Sick children will be monitored by the school and will be allowed to return only when they have fully recovered from the disease.

Health experts from Nong Chang Hospital and Nong Chang District Public Health Office will advise the school on how to spot and clean areas where the disease could be harbored. They are also expected to visit other schools in the province and provide the similar advice in an effort to contain the outbreak of hand, foot and mouth disease.

<deleted>? Thailand hub of weird infections. I always thought Foot in mouth was only something that politicians and RTP could catch.

Good hygiene is the prevention of this disease. With no toilet paper and no soap it is easy to see why this occurs.

Something I'd rather not watch TYVM.

The bum spray is a cleaner alternative to paper.

Happens all over the region every July. Most Kindergartens need to close for a week or so around this period.

Sadly 9 children died in Cambodia last year from it.

True. However if you find a public school with anything but a tank and a plastic bucket in toilets, telll me.

Must have been complication. Normally, HFMD is a minor illness causing only fever and relatively mild signs and symptoms.

when you consider that basic hygeine is not followed in Thailand its a wonder we dont see a lot more cases, again it boils down to parental skills with not teaching the kids to wash their hands etc as well as the lack of general cleanliness everywhere. Wouldnt take a lot to improve it but it does require a bit of work to start, something many simply refuse to do, easier to blame everyone else than take any responsibility themselves for their actions or lack of them

That's true. If only the bum spray was used it would be ok. I'll leave it at that.

Not to be confused with foot in mouth disease which seems to afflict many of the military government ministers.
