Just wondering. I would like to give up the retirement visa and go back to non-o visa. If I leave and go to home country (USA) and do not get an exit stamp, can I get non-o even if I have time left on my extension of stay? Basically by leaving without exit stamp, I no longer have retirement visa.

Leaving without a re-entry permit will kill any extension of stay.

But you should be able to achieve the switch without leaving the country, just change the reason for your extension next time you renew.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

Not sure what you are wanting to accomplish.

Are you planning on getting a multiple entry non-o visa instead of getting another extension based upon retirement? You will have to get the non-o visa from one of the honorary consulates since the embassy and the 3 official consulates will not issue one based upon being 50 or over for retirement.

Yes Ubonjoe I wish to get a multiple entry non-o instead of extension of stay. I would plan on doing this at Portland, OR. consulate where I before used to get because of age. I generally leave Thailand every 3 months anyway and just think lots of hoops to jump through for extension of stay any more.

You won't get that from Portland.

A non 'O-A' multiple entry (Long Stay) visa would probably be your best option (not Portland), that will allow you to come and go as often as you want for 1 year. Every time you enter you'll be granted a 1 year stay, so if you do want to stay longer than 3 months you can. To maximise the visa you can make a last entry just before the visa expires for a last 1 year stay. If you want to exit/return during that year you can buy a single entry (1,000 baht) or multiple entry (3,800 baht) re-entry permit.

That gives you nearly two years from one visa. At the end of the two years you can apply for a new visa or go back to 1 year extensions of stay.

The honorary consulates in the US will do multiple entry non-o visas based upon being 50 or over for retirement without a problem.

Perhaps you are confusing the US with the UK.

The Portland Honorary Consulate website does not give 'over 50' (retirement) as a reason for a Non Immigrant 'O' Visa. Of course it could be wrong/out of date.

O (Other) - Marriage certificate and proof of spouse's Thai citizenship, Letter of invitation from volunteer organization in Thailand, proof of condo or home ownership.

Interesting that they apparently issue them for Condo/home ownership!

There have been many posts about them doing the multiple entry non-o visas in Portland and at other honorary consulates. I am aware of what is on their website.

I have been getting non-o visas with mult entries for the last 6 years from Portland based on age. Only in the last year did I do an extension of stay but wish to go back to the non-o as less hassles as I usually leave every three months anyway.

Thanks for your help Ubonjoe. Just wondering still if no problem returning with non-o if I still have valid extension of stay? I will not get a re entry permit so I am guessing that will cancel out my extension of stay and let me enter with new non-o.

No problem if you don't have a re-entry permit.

Apologies, I was going by the website and assumed they'd gone the way of the UK.
