warranty refusal help

Featured Replies

I purchased a Samsung Hard Drive in June , 2011

model 1 TB SATA-b from JIB this drive has a 5 year warranty

The drive failed just after January 2016

I filed a warranty claim with JIB in April, 2016

I am told there is no warranty, he distributor is out of business!!

I have a claim receipt from JIB, but they did not return my drive despite many requests

My question is how do I resolve my warranty issue, i paid for the product and now they refuse to honor the warranty.

How do I get my warranty claim honored? The product ID is 0452081106 serial number S246J1BB502198

I can not get anyone here in Thailand to even acknowledge my claim.

does anyone know where I can get my warranty honored as agreed when I purchased the drive.

Help appreciated, I have all relevant receipts and registered the drive when I purchased it.

Thanks

No warranty is a joke in Thailand , im surprised it lasted 4 years.

Go see Samsung customer service, there's an office in the Promenada Shopping Mall, ground floor near the back.

Not going to be much help, but I have had similar issues with Samsung's hard drive warranty, drives (three) vanished in to the system never to be seen again.

It is worth going direct to Samsung as suggested by Chiang Mai. But in reality how much is your time worth, a new drive could cost less than 2,000 Baht.

By the way, it appears that the Samsung brand for disk drives now belongs to Seagate, or is it vice-versa?

EDIT Argghh, I moved ukrules post from one of the multiple duplicate threads and it's ended up as post #1. Ruddy crappy computers ...

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

Seagate is the manufacturer, typically they're very high quality drives.

Contact Samsung. That is who the guarantee is with not JIB. Samsung, assuming you have the paperwork to show when you bought it, will take of it.

I have had several claims and all were handled promptly and efficiently. There is very little difference in price between good stores and bad stores.

This is a good one;

I am typing this on an Asus laptop.

The hard drive on this laptop is a replacement hard drive.

Had a two year international warranty on it (purchased in Thailand)

There is an Asus factory in Thailand....took about 3 weeks to send laptop from store to the Asus factory and return it.

Replaced hard drive with no charge from store I purchased laptop.

Without warranty would have cost me 10,000 Baht

Not always, but sometimes such things do work.

How is it that the OP is the 2nd post in this thread?blink.png

See post #5, it all went pear-shaped when the forum was having issues yesterday.

What hdd costs 10,000thb thesedays?? Maybe a large Ssd... Nothing else should be anywhere near 10k

Next time buy your stuff at an Advice shop. You can check on your own how long your warranty is. Never had a problem with them.

Be wise and buy at Advice...

Samsung sold their HDD business to Seagate in 2012 so all warranty liability now belongs to Seagate with the same terms and validity as when purchased.

To check validity and initiate a return, go here: http://samsunghdd.seagate.com/ , enter the country, product and serial numbers.

I believe that the correct model number for your drive is HD103SJ (see below)

Unfortunately the result is this:

Seagate and Western Digital essentially have a worldwide duopoly in the HDD business and a few years ago both of them drastically reduced the manufacturers warranty period on their HDD products, especially the cheaper consumer grade models. Usually it is about 2 years

In thailand the big distributors (e.g. STREK, SYNNEX etc.) offer an extended warranty which can be 3-5 years. In that case there is usually a sticker affixed to the HDD. If the HDD fails within 2 years it can be returned either to the manufacturer or to the distributor. After the initial 2 years, a failed disk can only be returned to the distributor.

I have made multiple claims on both WD and Seagate HDD's and in all cases it has worked very efficiently. I send a messenger with the failed drive and he returns with a new one. Sometimes the distributor can be out of stock so to avoid waiting he takes them directly to either Seagate or WD or vice versa.

Unfortunately I guess that in your case where the manufacturers warranty has expired and the distributor is out of business then your only recourse is the retailer. In countries with more enlightened consumer laws the retailer would probably be obligated to honour the extended warranty but in Thailand.......

You could try emailing JIB's head office or post on their Facebook page. I wouldn't hold my breath though.

If it was registered when you purchased it, with Seagate, It should be covered by Seagate. (3 years)

I just purchase a 2 Tb backup on the weekend from JIB, but they are not responsible for warranty work.

After registering directly with Seagate, I received this via email.

That's a relief. For a minute there, I thought ukrules (first post) had developed second sight.
