Breaking news I think.

Self drive Teslar car has crashed killing the driver. No definite news as to why as the investigation has just started.

On BBC news channel.

Happened on 7th May but seemingly only being reported now.

Against a bright spring sky, the car’s sensors system failed to distinguish a large white 18-wheel truck and trailer crossing the highway, Tesla said. The car attempted to drive full speed under the trailer, “with the bottom of the trailer impacting the windshield of the Model S”, Tesla said in a blog post.

Just saw there is another thread started slightly earlier than mine in World news.

Only way self driving cars will ever work is to adopt the same tech used in aircraft. A transponder to ID each and every vehicle on the road, its position and its relative position to every other vehicle on the road. This exempts pedestrians, who whould not be on the same road as vehicles anyway. Or people on bicycles. And - the complex interactive technology to track all those vehicles. Doable - yes. But who would want to pay for it ? Anything else is a pipe dream. Cars been on the road for over 100 years and some people still can not drive. How long do you think a new tech will take people to understand ? Not in my lifetime.

None of the Tesla models available are self-driving cars. They use a slightly more advanced version of cruise control, that needs constant driver attention, which is clearly stated in the manual.

If you're reading book, you are the problem. Not the car.
