Peace-keeping centres set up to ensure peaceful and transparent referendum

BANGKOK: -- The government has set up peace-keeping centres across the country starting July 1 to ensure that the August 7 referendum is held in a free, fair and transparent manner.

Government spokesman Maj-Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd said that the setting up of the peace-keeping centres at provincial and district levels was in response to Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha’s intention for the referendum to be held on schedule without cheatings and without any attempt to obstruct the referendum so that the people can make their own judgement on how to vote.

Provincial and district officials assigned to work at the peace-keeping centres have been told to strictly enforce the law and to carry out their three main assignments which include mapping out plans to cope with untoward incidents during the leadup to the referendum, during and after the referendum, gathering intelligence about distortions of the draft charter and disruptions of the referendum and measures to cope with an unrest situation.

Provincial governors will head the centres at their respective provinces while district officers will lead the district-level centres.

The centres will sum up reports to the government in three periods: pre-referendum from July 1-August 6; during the referendum on August 7 and post-referendum from August 8-10 or until the situation has returned to normal.

Set up the military junta to arrest those that question or have a thought and don't vote in favour. This whole sham voting has already lost all credibility and only those votes and opinions in favour are acceptable.

So then can we expect an increase in detention without trial for dissenters, distorters and disrupters even if such are only in the minds of the junta ?

They should offer those that vote yes 500 baht or a bottle of low kao. Why change habits?

What an amazing yet simple and basic reaction to threats of violence. The PM suspects there may be a violent minority group that may disrupt the polling stations so is setting up "peace keeping centres" to ensure the democratic vote can proceed unhindered. at these polling stations. So simple. He obviously wants this referendum to go ahead with no injuries or deaths.

The minister for defence a few years ago could learn a few things about setting up centres to ensure polling stations were not disrupted as well.

They will have an uphill battle, as there has been absolutely nothing free, fair or transparent so far.

Oh goodness me, the renovations on the trolls bridge must be complete now as he's back from his siesta.

True, when the yellow shirt PDRC thugs blocked people trying to vote that led to violence and military thugs with guns in the streets. My guess is most of the staff at these peace stations are former PDRC. Just a guess because most jobs in this unelected government seem to go to people who wore yellow shirts.

It sounds like a waste of money to me as the PM can also just instruct his own followers to this time not shoot at people who try to vote and block voting stations.

but he didn't do it when the election took place? allowing yellow thugs to shut down polling stations? anyone who believes this hypocrisy has a mountain sized naivety born of ignorance

War is Peace

Freedom is Slavery

Ignorance is bliss

No one knows what they are meant to be voting for yet.

it's supposed to be the epitome of 'differential voting'

They double as attitude adjustment centers, right?

Are you saying that if he had given the order the army would actually have followed it?? Are you saying that you don't realize the armed forces of Thailand are a private army of the old elite?

OMG djjamie, I worry about you some times!

This myth is once again debunked and has taken to another level as confessed by Surin Pitsuwan, member of the highly ambarassing failure at the UN Security Council. They tried to influence members with gifts and received strong words of commitment but didn't translate to actual votes.

Oh goodness me, the renovations on the trolls bridge must be complete now as he's back from his siesta.

Still spouting a load of spherical objects though...

Only a Thai "secret policeman" would be prepared to pretend to be an Essendon supporter.
