NRSA cancels 2 functions after deeming them unnecessary

BANGKOK, 5 July 2016 (NNT) – The head of the National Reform Steering Assembly (NRSA) has cancelled a third meeting between the NRSA and foreign ambassadors stationed in Thailand as well as an assembly meeting with politicians scheduled for this July 15.

NRSA chairman Capt Thinaphan Nakata has seen fit to call off an NRSA meeting with foreign diplomats as well as a meeting on July 15 with representatives of political parties following strong concerns expressed by several members of the assembly over the two sessions.

Assembly member Seri Suwannaphanont earlier remarked that while keeping the international community abreast of the activities of the NRSA was beneficial, he disagreed with holding a third meeting with diplomats in the nation after only recently holding two similar gatherings. He argued that the frequent meetings were diluting their importance.

On NRSA meetings with politicians and co-operative activities with politicians, Seri questioned their necessity while pointing out that many politicians are already NRSA members, making joint activities redundant. He expressed concern that the sessions were an unneeded use of NRSA funds and could open it up to condemnation of allowing politicians to rally for support.

The NRSA chairman agreed with Seri’s concerns and called off the two functions, affirming that the assembly must work for the benefit of the nation as a whole. The body today discussed environmental issues with a focus on marine resource management.

Man, I would have loved to be present when diplomats unbowed by art. 44 and big guns are calling the junta on all of their BS (reconciliation, fighting corruption, restoring democracy etc). Must have been epic!

No, no, we can't have that - definitely not - it smells of democracy!

"He argued that the frequent meetings were diluting their importance"

Funny that. In a country where meetings are held all the time so 'important' people can talk for hours on end on their little soapbox, you'd think they'd be fans. I guess you shouldn't ask that 'important' person any questions they don't like it. Hell, simply asking a question that requires some sort of knowledge in the said person's field would be unacceptable.

And as we all know, us pesky foreigners do ask a lot of questions. We need to be more submissive and ass kissing.

I thought the functions might be 1. registering to vote and 2. elections.

Well they probably are unnecessary since just about every international organisation, probably up to and including the International Federation of Tiddlywinks Associations, (yes it does exist, thank you google!) has been quoted by the Thai Government as agreeing that they understand their immense sacrifice and herculean efforts to return happiness to the people and follow the oft quoted "roadmap" to true Democracy.....
