Organic cosmetics highly popular in Germany: Commerce minister

eco.jpg

BANGKOK, 6 July 2016 (NNT) – Commerce Minister Abhiradee Tantraporn cited a report of the Trade Promotion Office in Frankfurt, Germany, as saying that products made from natural substances without chemicals or preservatives are highly popular in the European country.

She said the popularity of organic goods including cosmetics would increase continuously despite their relatively high prices compared to those of regular products.

Germany has been by far the largest organic cosmetics market where the growth rate may be based on extensive distribution and continuous demands.

German drugstores have thrived in the sales of natural and organic cosmetics while consumers have had worries about problematic substances and tended to be increasingly value-oriented, according to the commerce minister.

During this year’s first four months, Thailand exported cosmetics and body care products worth 4.8 million U.S. dollars to Germany marking a 22 percent increase from the same period last year.

organic... as in organic chemistry?

this is so ridiculous.

name one chemical that isn't made of natural substances.

at the same time, the base for producing most cosmetics still is pig fat, extracted by the ton from dead animal carcasses in slaughterhouses.

No problem getting into that market. Just reprint the labels.

I don't think I can stand it. How can you scrape the bottom of the barrel and clutch at straws at the same time? The government must be seriously

worried right about now. Even more worried than I thought they were, and I thought they were already really worried.

For hair removal only brazilian wax or shaving.

No skin irritating synthetic tube products.

Thailand has some very interesting natural products.

This is a future market.

are you in the business of food aromas?

let's take the last item, vanillinacetate:

the main ingredients are clove oil and vinegar...

Don't you know that a word can have multiple definitions?

By your logic, each and every physical entity in the universe ... including synthetic, man-made chemicals ... is a "natural substance."

Also, lard (i.e., pig fat) is indeed used in some cosmetics, but it's no where near in"most cosmetics."

While vanillin can be made from clove and vanilla beans, it isn't because it's far too expensive. Instead it is synthesized from creosote.

almost...

unnatural for me is when a substance contains atoms that don't occur naturally, i.e. is a synthetic element:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synthetic_element

but we could also settle for a definition of "unnatural" if the molecule does not occur naturally - but this would rule out most products.

That sounds about as organic as you can get.

No universal standards or consensus on what organic means or when it can be used to indicate specific state, condition or specifics about ingredients in a product. Ergo, you basically never know what you are getting and must totally rely on your trust of the company and store.

How trustworthy are businesses in it to maximize profit? ... a tricky question given all the "marketing" to influence and mislead public perception...

Forces us as consumers to be fully informed... a lot of work and time... Maybe we need a "Consumer Reports" type magazine just for food industry to protect us?

Organic cosmetics made in Thailand ... just like the organic vegetables sold in Thailand with a higher content of pesticides than "normal" vegetables.

The EU is actually testing such "organic" claims. Be warned.
