PHETCHABUN: -- Buildings and construction works on 46 land plots in Phu Tap Berk which have been found to be illegally built on encroached land will be the first to be demolished under the government’s tough policy to reclaim the Sor Por Kor land from illegal owners.

Owners of the buildings who are mostly tourism operators who either built resorts or shops on the land in question will receive letters of notification from the court on Friday. They are given 30 days to remove their buildings or other construction works otherwise the authorities concerned will do it themselves.

An informed source said that as many as 1,000 home stays and resorts in Ban Tap Berk, Ban Tap Berk Mai, Ban Na Sa-oong and Ban Nam Piang Din in Lom Kao district of Phetchabun province will face demolition.

It was reported that about 100 tourism-related operators would petition the Damrongtham centre in Phetchabun for justice and fair treatment. They said they would like the authorities to find a compromise solution to the problem.

The operators claimed that the government’s attempt to reclaim the Sor Por Kor land from illegal owners would cause serious impacts on them, on tourism-related businesses.

Meanwhile, an advisor to the natural resources management and environment of Phetchabun province said he agreed with the use of Sectioin 44 of the interim charter to solve the Sor Por Kor land abuses but he disagreed all the buildings built on the encroached land should be demolished.

Seems beautiful places get ruined by people building resorts to make money? Then when its ruined they wonder why no one comes any more?

What a crazy country we live in! Where else in the world can people who not only illegally occupy land but also build resorts on it claim to be being treated unfairly when told to move?

What get me is that these people actually stole this land without a deed and built resorts to make a profit from tourits. Now they get caught and are begging not to lose their resorts.

These people are just land thieves and should be made not only to pay for their buildings demolishment but also pay to restore the land back to its natural beauty and then get some huge fines on top of that. Prison would be best.

Surely they knew what they were doing when they built on this land.

You may be right. I don't know.

But the people who built the resorts may have bought the land, complete with paperwork, from someone who didn't have the right to sell it, backed up with documents from crooked government officials in the land office.

I'd be protesting, too if I had a stamped, official deed and later found out that I'd been swindled with the help of a corrupt official. (or caught up in a pissing contest between various factions of government when the incoming faction decides that everything the outgoing guys did needs to be reversed and redone for their own benefit)

...will do.....they say 30 days...let's see....

...a few questions....

...why aren't they billed for the demolition.....???

...why aren't they arrested for operating illegally all these years....and their assets seized.....???

Clearly either someone like the governor and whoever else in charge of the land dept was either asleep at the wheel or money changed hands to allow such an enormous encroachment to take place.

I agree with the other poster if there is stamped paperwork involved I'd be protesting also and track down just how it was all issued.
