We need the info we can get - I and my Thai wife plan to come to Samui sometime in December and stay until - well, I must be back in Sweden before end of May and she should have her permanent residence permit well before then. Need no luxury, but a work desk as we are both writers (she is more pro than I am, but I like it...), a small kitchen, a/c, easy access as I to not walk too well.

I have been to Lamai a couple of times, once in Chaweng long time ago, not really seen much of the rest.

All info appreciated!

Look around when you get here...

You said you haven't seen a lot !!

I'm sure you'll find something you like but your budget is a little on the low side !!

Hi,

You say you don't walk to well, can you drive a car or scooter ?

Some of the nicer quiet places are quite a distance from town centres and beaches.

Whats your rental budget per month 10,20,30K + ?

As I said in the headline, my low budget hovers around 10K. I am a Swede, remember, and we pay 75% in tax! I can drive car but not scooter (50 years of diabetes has given some infarcts in the balance center) while my wife loves to drive motorbike and has license for car but not so much practice.

I am in an intermediate stage, trying to become a sick pensioner, my wife tries to get permanent residence permit to Sweden, and it will take a year of governmental free courses in Swedish, before she is fully active here and can start to get extra income - she is just now getting formal certificate in Thailand for Thai massage, which is a very good business here to get black money....

Otherwise we both hope, of course, to have one foot in each country. We start to speculate about writing a book in Thai, Swedish and English about Eastern-Western relations - those she has seen in Thai have been patently stupid. And I have the feeling I have picked up enough info to give some advice from the other side. Should be a nice book for Thai potential girlfriends to send to their potential Farang guys......

Hoping to come down to civilisation second week of December.....

Hi Belgarath,

We can help maybe.......next to us is a new bungalow free with 1 bedroom, it's clean, have a nice owner who maintain the garden and area, have a small kitchen and living room.

Rent was normally 10.000.Baht, now 12.000.Baht but im sure we can convince him to have it for 10000 baht because you are staying for 5 months.

It's in Plai leam, Choengmon, 5 min. from the airport, quiet and 200m from the beach.

I have ADSL at home and thinking about buying a router for wireless, so maybe can share and split the cost so no need to install a telephone line which took me 1,5 months to do........

Greetz,

Thank you for information - for the moment the whole trip is on hold thanks to the insane governmental sick insurance in Sweden. They have got far too much power and act against all doctors, specialists in endocrinology in my case, using their own low-level doctors for blocking decisions from the specialists. After 4 months of fight I finally got sick money - but I had been honest and told I MUST go to Thailand like the 7 previous winters, as I have no balance and cannot walk on slippery ground, can not go to shop for food if there is ice and snow, and without getting that exercise in winter, I am soon in a wheel chair.

Yesterday I got a mail from them "no sick money if you go abroad"..... even if that would not cost them a single Baht!

Let's wait and see.

Can you not tell them you are staying in Sweden and get your money sent overby someone. I thought it was only my country England that was crap. It seems Sweden is not so good.

Well, no problem to get the money, they land on my VISA account. But the idiots know only too well that I MUST be away in winter, because they have got half a dozen sick leaves and health declarations from both diabetes doc and orthopedist, that I simply cannot manage to walk on slippery terrain and that my health improves visibly after my stays there. The first time when I had started to walk again after the first infarct in the balance center, they accepted sick leave to Thailand, but the next winter when I had another smaller infarct they refused, and have refused ever since - so I have taken out all my holidays there in winter, at least I have 7 weeks of holidays.

Their refusal to listen to the doctors and do what is good for the patients, simply to show the power the last government gave them, is incredible - and many articles and tv programs about it, but still no change with the new government. Their main effort is on "saving money", not helping sick people. They save money by attacking those who cannot defend themselves, not those who cheat.
