bazza40
All the information is out there; no excuses. Countries which get 30 days at Airport and 15 day stamp at land border: Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Brunei, Belgium, Czech, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Kuwait, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, Oman, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Slovak, Slovenia, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and UAE. How much will I pay for overstaying? That depends on the number of days you overstayed in Thailand. The minimum charge is 500 baht per day and the maximum is 20,000 baht if you overstayed for 40 or more days Just curious, where do you cross a land border entering Australia ?? When you reach the coast.
NickJ
K. Maneeporn is a very nice person. So are others there. An Idiot/Moron once again helping to ruin Thailand for the rest of us. Perhaps Jomthien Immigration Officers need to be given hazard pay so they dont burnout and get mean.
luckyman
Poor Brian should have taken an example from the Irish football fans during their recent and decent run at the Euros.... What a prick! So long cowboy!!

Benmart
Being nice to others, often results in being treated nicely. This was taught to me at an early age. From my experience, the same applies to my life here in the LOS.

sahibji
i think this guy got away cheap. shouting vulgarities at an officer who was well within her line of duty is neither civil nor gracious, more so when you are a visitor to the country. the officer had clearly extended all option open to him yet this dummbo could not appreciate the hospitality so kindly extended to him. pay for it if you do not respect the laws of the host country. sahibji
No excuse for this - I can only Imagine what would happen in other countries if he behaved the same. But, out of curiosity, how does the deportation work. I mean people are joking about him being sent back to the UK - but wouldn't he just go to Cambodia / Laos etc. if he wanted t continue his trip? deportation is an order to return to your country. lemonjelly
Wondering.... did he just say "f***" out of frustration, not actually directing it at the immigration officers? It may have been misinterpreted by the official.

Thaidream
Rather amazing - he was being given a nice 'break' by the IO. She could have immediately arrested him for overstay and sen him to IDC for deportation. Instead she offered to clear the overstay and still extend his stay. What a fool. sambum
Bit of a non story to be honest, the article ends with the words: Outraged fellow officers swooped in and slapped on the cuffs. If he didn’t want to pay, they told him, he’d either have to leave within 24 hours or be forcibly deported. Which is what they should be doing anyway when they encounter someone on overstay, right? In fact the option to pay within 24 hours shouldn't even be there. Doesn't seem to me like the swearing is relevant here. Of course the swearing is relevant! One of the first things you learn here is that an Immigration Officer can decide at his/her own discretion whether to grant you a visa/extension etc. So the LAST thing you want to be doing is swear at an Immigration Officer! As a previous poster said "Som nom na", and his experience should show others that shouting and swearing at someone in authority doesn't get the required result - and that applies worldwide - not just Thailand

Rayk
Som nom na Brian. You screwed up. The immigration official was kind enough to try and help you out and this is how you show your appreciation. ggt
Being disrespectful when conversing with immigration, police or most any Thai official will cause one to come into direct reality...you are here at the pleasure of Thai officials...if you piss them off...you may find yourself leaving the country quickly... Most everyone has thought the F-bomb at one time or another...but thankfully most have enough moxie to keep their rage inside until they get to where they can have a cold beer and simmer down... Here we go again, another one who thinks a 4 day overstay is the crime of the century contributing to the breakdown of Thai national security. How about we also make self righteousness a crime as well?
nemrut
This is the type of low-life, loud mouth farang behavior that many Thais have to deal with far too often. humqdpf
There is a lesson for all of us........ check your entry stamp before leaving the immigration check point. Oh, and another learning point....................... keep your mouth shut when you are in the wrong and/or dealing with Immigration. Immigration did nothing wrong and I think it is appropriate in this situation to say "som nom naar" The rule is always, "Immigration is always right. And even when they are wrong, they are still right."
