What a catch! Wouter the Dutchman marries Thai singer 21 years his senior!

Famous Thai country singer Sunaree Ratchasima has announced that she has married her long time boyfriend from the Netherlands - Wouter.

Rumours have abounded for several years but they have finally tied the knot registering their marriage on Wednesday.

Sunaree is 48 while her toy boy is just 27. The couple are planning a Thai traditional wedding ceremony about November and Sunaree said that there will be a dowry but they are not that serious about how much it should be so long as Thai traditions are upheld.

They are waiting some time so Wouter's family can be there. Wouter gets an "instafam" in the bargain - Sunaree already has a six year old child from another relationship.

But Sunaree said that her son wants a younger brother or sister who is a "luuk kreung" (of mixed birth).

"We are talking to doctors about that, "said the popular luuk thung singer, "but I am fit and healthy so why not".

Sunaree was taking on TV entertainment Channel 8. Wouter let her do all the talking. She talked about the age difference, the pile of paperwork and translations needed to marry a foreigner, the advantages for her husband in marrying and being able to live in Thailand and her being able to visit his hometown easily.

Wouter gazed into her eyes admiringly but said nothing that was reported.

But the Thai reporters seemed to all be in agreement - what a sweet couple, they all enthused.

Yup typical Thai thinking and an excellent reason. Pity she will be 70 when her new toy is 20 and what the world really, really needs is extra kids

Great lady, many years ago my missus was a back up dancer and singer for her when they both were starting out on the country circuit. Wouter probably wasn't even conceived then.

I first met her in 2003. very nice person and one of Thailand's great singers, Good luck to both of them. She deserves some happiness, her fist husband was cheating on her when she was pregnant, she already has two grown up boys. Strange if the ages were the other way around the snide comments would not be here.

If it ain't Dutch...it ain't much she must have thought...anyway

Yes like so many expat posters here are Grandfather material more than Father material.....doesn't seem to stop them marrying someone of the opposite sex decades younger than themselves.....and openly bragging about it on this site.

The lady in question is much.much younger than some of the ageing posters on here, in some cases two decades....if she wants kids and there is good medical advice available....go for it...why not?

Fair chance she will see her newborn go to university where some posters here will be flat out lasting until their offspring finish primary school.

Wouldn't be too hard for a Thai lady to be wealthier than those relying on the pension to fund their stay in the Kingdom.

They only need to own a house (or in some cases just a push bike) and they are far wealthier

Read the numerous threads about how the devalued pound might cause a tremendous amount of problems to those 'wealthy' pensioners

As far as I recall they have been together a couple of years, is it Thai tradition to pay a dowry for a middle aged woman with two adult children? I thought not.

Thai tradition is to be VERY serious about how much the sinsod comes to, however it is only due for the first marriage.

The woman was already on the fringes of respectable society looking in, so it doesn't matter if she marries this scruffy guy. She has nothing to lose since it seems she lost her dignity long ago. It's her life. I don't think her kids will be too happy, but as long as she gives them money I'm sure they will be ok. This is not high society. It's a low end singer who is in the twilight of her career.

Low end singer? you have to be kidding, she is regarded as one of the greatest luktung and lukrung singers in the past 30 years, only rivaled by Pumpuang and Cathaleeya in luktung and Owalee in lukrung.

all beings deserve happiness and good luck to her but to consider a kid at 48 is selfish particularly when she has a couple already
