Need 35 last days after 11 months already

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I took a gap year from my studies and came to Thailand with a 2-month tourist visa made in Paris. I extended it in Bangkok of one month, then did 2 visa-runs (Ho Chi Min and Kuala Lumpur). Then I found an internship in a Thai company. and got a 3-month ED visa in Singapore and then a 3-month Business visa in Vientiane, so it's been 11 months already and time to go back soon.

Now the problem is this last visa is going to expire on the 18th of July in one week but my return flight to France is on the 22th of August in 35 days. My internship is ending I just want to spend some free time here before going back to study in September. How can I get these 35 last days? Can I get them at the immigration in Bangkok, or is a visa-run possible given my history and current situation?

Thanks,

Pierre

  • You could do a border run and exit/re-enter using visa exempt entry (if you qualify). You'll get 15 or 30 (G7 countries) days which can be extended by 30 days at immigration for 1,900 baht.

You could get a Single Entry Tourist Visa (SETV) from a Thai Embassy/Consulate in a neighbouring country that would give you 60 days.

Go to Vientiane or Savannaket for a tourist visa. In some places, your visa history could be an issue, but there should be no problem in Laos.

With your history it should be no problem to do a visa exempt entry can be extended for 30 days at an immigration office. Since you apparently are from France you would get a 30 day visa exempt entry by air or land (G7 rule),

Thank you guys for your answers so far, I confirm being from France and travelling with my French passport.

Luckily I have an opportunity to join a trip to Laos with my friends and their colleagues.

Do I have anything to prepare before the trip?

What is going to happen when I exit Thailand (on 15th) and when I get back in (on the 20th)?

Will I get 15 or 30 days exemption?

  • You will need two photos for the Laos visa on arrival. The application is available at the border. You can pay the visa fee ($30) in baht or US dollars. US dollars usually works out slightly cheaper.
  • As said already you will get 30 days when you return on the 20th. Just hand over your passport and the IO will see that you don't have a visa and grant you a visa exempt entry.

Perfectly clear, thanks. Very last question, since my exemption will expire on the 19th and my flight is on the 22nd, do I really have to pay 1900THB for a 30-day extension?

  • No. You could pay 1,000 baht at the airport for overstaying 2 days.
  • You should also understand that being caught on overstay, before reaching the airport/border can result in arrest, prosecution, deportation and a 5 year ban. Highly unlikely for a 2 days over stay but possible as the rules stand.
