BANGKOK: -- The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission has decided to fine GMM Grammy 50,000 baht for broadcasting a programme containing improper scenes.

One of the commissioners, Ms Supinya Klangnarong, said that the commission faulted the programme, Club Friday To Be Continued, which was aired on Monday-Tuesday from 8 pm until 9.15 pm on GMM 25 channel for featuring rape scenes which were deemed a violation against good morals.

The programme was rerun on several occasions, she said, adding that, in the meantime, there was a public campaign against sexual violence and other violences on the television.

I haven't watched thai soap operas in years, but remember that when I did, rape scenes were common, and made me sick to my stomach.

If they were really fined then great, things are looking up.

Bt 50,000 for a major company isn't a fine, it's a joke.

Yes 50.000 baht is a joke, but they cannot be accused of doing nothing.

We took action, we fined GMM, we showed them.

Art imitates life, rape is real, censorship makes me sick.

Wrong colour channel: Channel 3 has soaps that constantly show rape and/or violence against women

I was more intrigued by this show's premise which is based on true events. A more realistic (and sad) reflection of society and maybe a good way to open people's eyes to the reality of their world.

You need to get out more often.

Beatings, shooting, kidnapping, intimidation, general abuse, and stupidity etc. are all ok - but don't even think, hint or infer rape, that's a major no no. The land of double standards.

Ok, I'll put in more direct terms so you can follow: If the story about the guy putting the woman's face to the bike exhaust is true then it shows how <deleted> up parts of Thai society is and if the populace is going to watch crap on tv then rather see a reflection of their society rather than rapes/beatings happening in the 100 million baht houses as in the Thai soaps. ;)

why not force them to make a commercial on their program to show NO means NO and rapists should go to jail (and hopefully being raped on a daily basis) as karma is a B

In more direct terms, anybody who can discuss the relative violence levels, quality and accuracy of Thai soaps needs to improve the quality of their life.

I agree, most people on this forum I am sure could stump up that cash without much of a problem, terrible justice. They should face a serious fine and agree to guidelines on all future episodes or risk losing the broadcast rights (license or whatever it is here) altogether.
