BANGKOK: -- The public prosecutor wants enquiry officers to find out more about financial and budget management of Wat Dhammakaya and about the donations given to the temple by several corporations.

Special prosecutor Kachornsak Putthanupark, also a member of the enquiry officers in charge of investigating the money trail between Klongchan Credit Union Cooperatives and Wat Dhammakaya, said Tuesday that the team was instructed to investigate further some issues, particularly the connection between Phra Dhammachayo and some of his monks with administrative responsibilities to find out more about the temple’s financial and budget management.

He added that the enquiring team was also assigned to check the receipts issued by the temple for corporate donors to find out whether the actual amounts of donations matched with the figures appeared on the receipts. He explained that donations can be used for tax deductions.

Mr Kachornsak further said that the special prosecutor wanted to know if the issuance of donation receipts was done by Wat Dhammakaya alone or with the supervision of the Office of National Buddhism.

The enquiry officers are expected to complete their additional probe and wrap up the case for submission to the prosecutor within August 11.

Donations to Wat Dhammakaya are divided into three categories: donations from members of the public; donations from Klongchan Credit Union Cooperatives and donations from corporations.

Excellent idea, that should delay any action even further.

Prosecutor demands more investigation.

That should help delay/stall things.

Give them more time to hide away the ill gotten gains.

I would bet a pound to a baht (pre Brexit of course) that all of the financial accounts were nicely 'taken of' long, long ago.

The orginal embezzlement - about four years ago - by Supachai (and his cronies) at Klong Chan CU was extremely well covered up back then, and the credit union staff fully active and complicit in waiving aside investors complaints and questions at that time.

As they say, nothing to see here. Move along...
