Transport Co., Ltd. to rent 400 new buses

BANGKOK, 14 July 2016 (NNT) - The Transport Co., Ltd. is preparing to rent new buses to gradually replace the old ones in the hope to increase passengers.

Deputy Minister of Transport Omsin Chiwaphruek on Wednesday presided over an event to celebrate the 86th anniversary of the company. 15 meters long new buses with more facilities were introduced. The company confirmed it was ready to improve services and safety, saying each bus driver will drive for four hours and they had to rest before driving again.

Mr. Omsin added that the buses would be test run on four main routes, including Bangkok-Mae Sot, Bangkok-Phuket, Bangkok-Nakhon Phanom and Bangkok-Chiang Mai from 13 July until 31 October 2016. If no problem was found during the test run, the company would rent the first lot of 100 buses and then the second lot of 300 buses to replace the old ones. Budget for the rental was around two billion baht, said the deputy minister.

The deputy minister stated further that the company needed to make the public know about its new services urgently due to the increasing popularity of low-cost airlines. He said the company would use digital technology with its services more in order to reduce costs by one billion baht and become more competitive.

New, clean, safely driven buses are what's needed in Bangkok.

Find more ways to encourage people to use the bus also. Incentives, etc. Let's get away from this notation of driving a car is hiso because it isn't.

Cheaper to rent?

These new buses are diesel, NGV, or what?

Rented from whom?

This article doesn't even reach the level of an ad much less news.

Also 2 billion baht and it is only a rental!!!

rent with an option to buy, must be mustn't ! @ 5 million baht each

Compare this to BMTA's announcement in April 2016 to purchase of 489 new NGV buses for 1.7 billion baht (3.5 million each) and 4 billion baht inclusive of vehicle maintenance.
