Photo: Kritsada MueanhawongKRABI: Public officials in Krabi began picking up trash that had washed ashore along a two kilometer stretch of Ao Nang beach yesterday. The officers were joined by private companies, as well as tourists, who pitched in to clear the beach after the heavy rains and strong surf washed trash up along the Ao Nang shoreline.Krabi officials said they were concerned about the effects of the trash on Krabi’s main tourist attraction, as Ao Nang’s white beaches were turned brown and black by the plastics and unnatural trash strewn about its shores.Full story: http://www.phuketgazette.net/phuket-news/Tourists-thanked-Ao-Nang-officials-beach-cleaning/64208?desktopversion#ad-image-0 -- Phuket Gazette 2016-07-14
July 14, 20169 yr Yeah thanks for doing our job you silly Farangs....Now back to "days of our lives" Thai version on the idiot box....
July 14, 20169 yr Someone needs to show the Thai what a rake is. Standing in one spot sweeping sand with a limp straw 18th century broom isn't quite the tool for the job... It's no wonder they never bother. Take long time...
July 14, 20169 yr Someone needs to teach Thais to be civic minded......and not throw their sh** everywhere! Tourists pay their wages....hotel bills....travel etc......and then have to clean the beach where they want to spend time.....!!
July 15, 20169 yr I do wonder why various beach municipalities don't hire more (or any) beach cleaners. There must be ways to skim some of their pay....
July 15, 20169 yr hope it is not a flash in the pan. continued community involvement to clean up not only the beaches, but all around us will bear fruitful results. well done the trend setters. others please continue the good work.
July 15, 20169 yr The Ghostbusters' negative slime has really crept across TV today. For me, thanks to all those who helped. It's rubbish from the oceans, not some Thai picnic. Good to see everyone working together to clean the beach.
July 15, 20169 yr ...duhh...where did the trash come from to begin with.... ...so pathetically primitive.....
July 15, 20169 yr I did some calculations a few years back, and came to the conclusion that the mayor of Samui could put together a beach cleaning crew for 75,000 baht per month. A four person crew that would make the rotations, and clean up two or three beaches per day. It would do wonders to some beautiful beaches that are consistently fouled by trash. That is peanuts for a government that collects billions, from the local community. Any community can do that. The ones that do not have a boil on their faces, officials completely devoid of pride, competency, and the ability to run their tourist areas properly. This is such a basic necessity. Of course the officials were grateful that the foreigners had volunteered to do their jobs. The question remains, why were they not doing their jobs to begin with? Sloth? An extreme lack of pride? Incompetency? Greed? Pick one.

In the high season it all gets blown out to sea by the wind, and in the low season it all gets blown back again by the monsoon winds.
July 15, 20169 yr Plenty of non violent offenders in jail to do this kind of work. It should be done daily.
July 17, 20169 yr The Ghostbusters' negative slime has really crept across TV today. For me, thanks to all those who helped. It's rubbish from the oceans, not some Thai picnic. Good to see everyone working together to clean the beach. It is all rubbish from Thailand. In the high season it all gets blown out to sea by the wind, and in the low season it all gets blown back again by the monsoon winds. Spot on its all the rubbish from around the local islands where the day tours go everyday it's an absolute joke not only the sea but all the rubbish around all the roads in ao nang.
July 22, 20169 yr Plenty of non violent offenders in jail to do this kind of work. It should be done daily. I like your thinking here, I've run prison work programs in the past... Although sadly programs like that do attract extra cost (security, transport, equipment) so we know it won't happen here
