Hi,

I recently got 100/10 Mb Fibre from 3BB. Although the default router is pretty good and supplies enough speed at the second floor, I would like to use my ASUS AC87U router and connect it to the Huawei router because the ASUS router has builtin VPN DD-WRT.

I setup this up correctly with my previous True ADSL. But I seem at a loss now.

I connected the two routers with the LAN to WLAN cable and set the WAN connection into Bridge mode. But if I use 'router.asus.com' to access my ASUS settings I only get the message:

Settings have been updated. Web page will now refresh.
Changes have been made to the IP address or port number. You will now be disconnected from RT-AC87U.
To access the settings of RT-AC87U, reconnect to the wireless network and use the updated IP address and port number.

Is there somebody with the same setup who has connected it properly? (AC66U might be similar)?

Thank you.

Message you got seems common. You should be able to see the ASUS in your computer's Wifi selection area and make a Wifi connection

Now to log into the ASUS "setup menus" you'll need to see what IP Address Number the Huawei issued for the ASUS router. An IP number just for example like 192.168.1.101.

This means you'll probably need to log into your Huawei menus to go to the menu area showing connected devices IP address numbers. Or you may be able to log into the Hauwei by using 192.168.1.1...then you can look around to see what IP address was issued for the ASUS. Once finding that IP address you can use that address to log onto the ASUS menus.

Basically use the IP address number of the devices to logon their setup menus versus the router.asus.com you were using.

Thanks. After a lot of sweat I got it going.

There is an issue though. The speeds (Wifi/Computer) on my 100/10 fibre connection are only 16/1 .... exactly the speeds of my previous True connection.

Any way to fix this?

As I set the huawei router in bridge, I can't seem to connect to it anymore. Any idea how to get it back?

Replaced the cable with a CAT-6 LAN cable. Reset the router (perhaps some settings were carried over from my True connection). Configured VPN .. everything seems perfect now.
