It could be a good test of aptitude for the Career Guidance people.

Any student stumped by it would be well advised to stay on in college and get the diploma so as to get the resulting job in wage-slavery.

On the other hand, those budding potentials to drop out of college and become young millionaires will say "Bugger all this maths. I am following the money!" and solve it in a flash.

Subtract 2 dollars (that the waiter took) from 27 (what they paid), and you get to 25 dollars, which is what the restarant got. ADDING the 2 dollars instead of substracting them has no meaning.
