Traffic jams on highways to North, Northeast as people leave capital to enjoy 5-day long holiday

BANGKOK: As more and more people are leaving the capital to enjoy the long five day holiday this weekend that caused major highways to the Northeast, the North and the South jampacked with vehicles today, the Transport Company says it will add 1,000 extra trips from the normal 6,000 trips a day to cope with the rising number of passengers.

The company’s chairman and acting president Pol. Gen. Amnaj Anarttama-Ngarm said the company has been prepared to cope with the increase in passenger traffic during the 5 day Buddhist Lent and Buddhist Lent Eve break from July 16 – 20.

He stated that in normal circumstances, the average number of trips carried out by their buses is 6,000 per day.

But due to the higher number of passengers this long weekend, they have increased 1,000 extra trips to the bus fleets per day.

Furthermore, he said that the company has also prepared 300 special buses as backup.

These 300 will be able to handle an extra 100,000 passengers if the need arises, he said.

The acting president also revealed that the highest concentration of passenger traffic will be today as many rural people who are working in Bangkok have pre-booked tickets earlier on so that they can return to their domiciles before the rush occurs.

Meanwhile highway police said heavy traffic are on Asian, Friendship, and Highway 9 (Bang Na- Bang Pa-in) and also Highway 304 from Kabinburi to Nakhon Ratchasima.

But for the Rama 2 highway to the South, traffic was moderate.

The last sentence seems fueled by a beverage comprised of arrogance, pride, false superiority and resentment. In addition, it' crude reference to the insertion of Pattaya "where the sun don't shine", paints a vivid picture of the poster. Enjoy the solitude of Mae Sot and may it be a lengthy one.

Ass end of the universe. Excellent description.[/quote)

Not really. The description lacks imagination and is as cliched as it is innacurate. All around Pattaya there are many attractions including mountains, lakes, areas of natural beauty, botanical gardens, small beaches, temples - the list is endless. In Pattaya itself there are frequent shows - parades- civic events- music events - charity events- fireworks - sports - the list is endless. People who criticise Pattaya harshly have usually not been there or have lived a very limited life there. Oh and the food and nightlife is some of the best in the world.

And the 300 extra bus drivers will come from...?

They will round up some of the "runners"?

The 300 buses are presumably those removed from normal service due to age or some other defect, so quality drivers are unlikely to be an issue. I guess they are relying on the slow speeds due to the traffic jams to complete most of the journeys without disaster.

It would be excellent to see the police drugs and alcohol testing, unannounced, every driver leaving the Bangkok bus terminals and pulling out all those testing positive. That might reduce the traffic congestion, especially if they extended it to minivan drivers too.

They could also inspect every bus to see if it had functioning seat belts, tyres with some wear left in them, illegal additional lights and black smoke billowing out of the back.

Might end up with a lot of unhappy passengers stuck in Bangkok for the holiday though.

It never ceases to amaze me which topics can be turned into a Pattaya bashing thread - this one about heavy traffic going north from Bangkokblink.png . And as always it's the envious guys who do the slagging, those who can't afford to live here or whose wife won't allow them to. Some of them even claim to have lived in Pattaya to gain credibility!!!

"Furthermore, he said that the company has also prepared 300 special buses as backup."

All of which have passed the most stringent safety inspection I am sure.

And these 300 busues will carry 10000 extra passengers, hmmmmmmmmm 10000/300 = 33 passengers per bus.

Soryy read it wrong, 300 buses for 100,000 passengers is more like it. That's 330 passengers per bus.

If it actually has to be explained to you, than one has to question who really is the fool.

In your wealthy country, wherever that may be, they probably call Saturday and Sunday a weekend, whereas here they refer to them as a holiday.

The rest you can figure out yourself.
