Interior Min orders tight security during referendum

Thammarat Thadaphrom

BANGKOK, 16 July 2016 (NNT) - The Ministry of Interior asked provincial authorities to tighten security on the referendum day.

During this meeting with provincial governors, Interior Minister Gen Anupong Paochinda told provincial and local officers to increase security measures at polling stations in order to facilitate the referendum.

He also asked about the registration of eligible voters and the readiness of personnel to be stationed at polling booths.

He then urged government officials to exercise patience, uphold impartiality, and perform their duties in the most efficient way.

Speaking with officials of the newly-established peace keeping center, he said everyone should avoid violating the 2016 Public Referendum Act by refraining from making suggestions that could sway or influence people’s judgment towards the draft constitution.

He also thanked provincial governors for making sure that policies issued by the government are implemented according to the roadmap.

Thailand is so blessed with International lessons right now. The Brits showed them how to run, campaign for and respect the vote in an un-tampered, bitterly divisive referendum, and the Turks just showed them how to deal with a Military Coup.

Yes; need good security, do not want any 'unapproved' voters in.

"He then urged government officials to exercise patience, uphold impartiality, and perform their duties in the most efficient way" I was with the guy until he said THAT. coffee1.gif

Security was notable by it's absence at the last elections, we since found out the reason for that.

Will anyone bother to vote?

Will anyone bother to vote?

There's no doubt that the distribution of votes will tell a story. Probably the numbers won't be completely reported for that very reason.

PM Prayut has already assured the public that the NCPO will be tasked with maintaining peace and order during the referendum.

Did General Anupong Paochinda not get the memo?

Personally, I think Prayut should have mobilized Buddhist Monks with maintaining peace and order - not even the military can intimidate or dislodge them.

According to General Arrogant Pomp-Ass, "...everyone should avoid violating the 2016 Public Referendum Act by refraining from making suggestions that could sway or influence people’s judgment (sic) towards the draft constitution..."

One step forward, three steps back!

It's still going to be a difficult uphill climb for the innocent Thais on their road to Democracy.

So let me guess, if you want to vote No, you will be sent home as you are a threat to national peace and order. But if you want to vote Yes, you are free to proceed.

Vote yes and you are damned or vote no and you are damned. To eternal military rule.

Yes; need good security, do not want any 'unapproved' voters in.

No worries, Suthep's thugs will take care of that.

That foreign stuff don't work in Thailand. Thainess is unique.
