Violence in Deep South declines

BANGKOK, 19 July 2016 (NNT) - Prime Minister’s Office Spokesperson Major General Sansern Kaewkamnerd has reported the situation in the three southernmost provinces has improved.

The Spokesperson said a notable reduction in insurgent activity and violence has been recorded in the recent period. He added however that despite a decrease in levels of violence in the Deep South, the government will continue to ensure safety for residents in the three provinces.

He affirmed the government will approach the issue in a peaceful way via peace talks and based on a civil state policy, His Majesty the King’s advice and public involvement. As for the regional economy, a 30-billion-baht budget has been endorsed by the government this year to develop measures to attract investment to the Deep South. It will also be used to support a peace restoration process.

The government has also extended a tax reduction scheme to help entrepreneurs in the provinces of Narathiwat, Pattani, Yala, Satun and four districts in Songkhla keep their business thriving. He added that Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha wants those involved in promoting economic prosperity in the restive south to start their projects as soon as possible.

Lame announcement.

Merely repeating Deputy Prime Minister/ Defense Minister Prawit’s proclamation made on July 6th. In reality there was a SURGE of insurgent attacks during Ramadan in contrast to Prayut’s assurance to ensure the security of the general public during the period of Ramadan.

One can take with a grain of salt any announcements made by the Thai Junta or spokespersons representing the Thai Junta , they have been caught out with misinformation , reading out the good parts of UN reports , giving unsubstantiated comments on the economy , tourist numbers , this is another load of cobblers from an administration trying to be wanted , but knowing they are hated, there can be no other reason....................................coffee1.gif

I'm sure there are weeks that this happens....

The outlook for global terrorism is not looking good.

I hope this area is a rare place that will get better.

I have serious doubts.

Seems like a bad career move to me. Seems to me that if you're in the business of propaganda (and this guy is) then believability is pretty important.

Backing up the little fat guy who can't even speak properly because of what seems to be a borderline case of Macroglossia, doesn't seem to me to be a good career move at all.

But he's army, so I suspect he either knows best, or thinks he knows best.

Don't know how many of you been down to this area lately, I drove up from east coast Malaysia to Thailand and crossed at the Sungai Kolok border and drove from there to Songkhla in early June this year, and it was an eye opener for me. I don't think that they ever will gain control of this area, maybe only if they kick out all the muslims to Malaysia or to Indonesia. The muslims here are more hardline (not the same Thai muslims you see in Phuket, Krabi, Satun or in Trang) with full burkas for the ladies and all the men dressed like Osama Bin Laden, scary place to visit.
